So whats the best 2.2/2200 engine someone has built on this site? hp wise i mean. Just wondering so when i get my engine and start buildin a best out of it i have something to shoot for. Can these engines be made into a rather quick, decently fast motor?
karo, is on a 2200, is he not?
and he is running 11's or very low 12's
so there's your goal

Umm...way off.
Karo has a 2.4 Twin Cam
He runs low 13s/high 12s N/A and I believe sometims uses a small shot of nitrous.
Look up Adler, he's a turbocharged 2200 and I think hitting high 200s in the horsepower #s.

probaly better off swapping in an Ecotec. or at least a 2.4
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
an eco or 2.4 swap aint worth it to me in the long run. i'd rather build up a 2200 and directly swap it into my car then have to go and change wiring harnesses and such. Plus i can pick up an complete 2200 for 50 bucks.
Alder has a 2200 I believe

By the way, when it comes to boost, there is no set HP amount...so just cause you see someone reach a certain amount of power doesn't mean you can't push farther than that. Just words of inspiration.

Nitrous Nate just did a build on a 2200. Hes got some photos around somewhere.
njhkm hmm i though i read that karo was using a 2200, oh well

Nope, defenitley a 2.4. I've even seen it in person and run at the track at the 2004 J-Body Bash. Sounds nutz...

NO!!!!!
Anyway, Adler made about 275 whp, and over 300 ft/lbs of torque I believe.... more than he could get to the ground at the time. He managed a best of 13.2 i think... but to be honest, the car had more in it, a lot more... With no power mods and just better traction and a lot more practice, that car could have been popping low 12's all day. Unfortunately I believe it was parted out and sold.
I'm pretty sure Adler's the highest recorded whp in a OHV J-body.... however, Lowfire and OHV Notec are both in the middle of big builds shooting for the 400whp mark.
Now, here's the deal, and despite the fact that I'm a big fan of the OHV, i'm gonna be straight with you on this.... You're a rookie, and the OHV is a simple engine, great to learn on and building one would be a good experience for you. However.... its only fair that you know that it takes a good bit of knowledge and research to build an OHV that will stay together at more than 250 whp... Because you really need to replace everything at that point... rods/pistons should be forged, but valvetrain is the real weak link, especially lifters. Some of the OHV gurus like Notec and Madjack are working really hard to compile lists of stuff from other pushrod engines that will work in the OHV and provide an increase in strength/performance. So make sure that you educate yourself thoroughly in the OHV before making up your mind to pursue this. I'm not saying it to discourage you, just to let you know what you're getting into. With the right work done well, the OHV can be a great motor and can put down enough hp where you'll probably never get traction enough to use it all. But it WILL take work and lots of studying on your part. I'm assembling an OHV build guide which i hope, when its done, it will include pretty much everything you need to know to build up an OHV, but the completion date is a looooooong way off. So start using the search for OHV topics, and join in on some of the OHV-applicable threads you see in the performance and boost forums. Just do yourself and favor and try reading up a lot so that you can ask educated questions. The OHV guys won't jump on you too bad for asking something that's asked a lot, but regardless, it will help you in the long run to learn to find info yourself.

you can get so much more out of an ecotec than a 2200. yea sure you would save on the swap but when it comes down to building it, your probably gonna spend more on the 2200 than you would an eco for the same results. just a thought
im only shooting to build up a respectful engine so i can show it off and do some track times with it. 400whp is nutz!!! i hope they get tthere that would fing awsome. I'm def goin to be buildin one and i have no set limit in money nor time.
2200 OHV pride man!
I'm with you. I will be building the OHV instead of going Eco.
Build what u got or get another car!
(I know the Eco guys are going to start thier harping, "Why don't u swap in a Eco?")
Scarab, your a pretty big hypocrite telling him us OHV guys wont jump on him too bad when you just ate someone alive in the boost forum for not searching about P&P.
