Common problem?

Hey guys , I've been a member for a long time, but just sold my Cavalier, Bought a Saturn to play with and now I'm back with a 1998 cavalier Z24, so back to my J-body home here.

I bought this car from buy here pay here, and know a kid prolly ragged on it, but the A.C compressor is shot on it and the owner said he usually pays half to fix the stuff on the cars but the A.C compressor on the cavaliers are known problems so i'd have to pay for the compressor myself, which isn't a problem since i'm planning on a rebuild of the engine soon anyways. but is this a known problem on cavaliers i never thought it was, but haven't been with my J-body for awhile now so now that i'm back have to erase all my Saturn info and come back to the J's

Chris.

It's not unheard of for a compressor to go out. Haven't seen too many on the Js.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, I know they go out, I live in florida so not uncommon just didn't remember being a J-body problem in general, thanks for the quick reply though.

There is a service bulleting somewhere that says ac compressor failure and explosions are common. Check with a dealership they should be able to find it. I think it came out in 2003.

Nathan - Yeah I still have it but selling my 1993 Saturn SC2 , next week. Actually the saturn is awesome, I've just always loved Cavaliers body style and mods to it a little more i guess.Came across this one and it was one and it was 1998 already black and so i said I'd rather it, if i was working more (had an accident at old job) I would keep both and mod both and buy another DD but can't afford to do that so sticking with the Cavalier. Thanks for asking though. J-body.org also ha ssome awesome people, But if you have a saturn www.turbosaturns.net has some funny and people who know alot too, Who know when i start working two jobs again i might do both

El Fuego - Thanks I'll check that out and see. I'm replacing it either way myself full cost wasn't a problem, just didn't think it was real common just normal for florida cars. Either way thanks for the help and reply's

Chris.

I'll be checking Regional forums but also looking For people who know engine work to learn stuff from hands on in the central Florida area, I live in Deltona, so Daytona Beach and Orlando area are fairly close, after i get my clutch fixed.
