"unsoldering"? HELP PLEASE!

just wondering if it's possible to "unsolder" something... pretty sure it is i just don't know how to do it... i know you need to re-heat it, but isn't there like a thread i use to solk up the solder? where would i buy it?

any help would be most appreciated!

lol... yeah you can use brainded copper to draw the solder out once it is heated/melted... but if you just heat the solder point and pull the wires appart it will be just fine... what are you unsoldering?

i was unsoldering the screen to my stock radio (01 sunfire)... two of the bulbs burnt out and the only way to get to them is to unsolder the screen that's in place. got any other suggestions?

You can go to radio shack and pick up a desoldering tool . You use your soldering iron to melt the soldering and suck it up with the desoldering tool . The desoldering tool is basically a spring loaded syringe . I had one and it worked good as lng as you have it close to the solder when you push the button .

i just use a blowtorch and a vacuum. done in a matter of seconds

Radio Shack also use to sell what is called 'dewick'. It draws the heated solder up into it. It is almost like braided copper wire and has flux in it to help draw the solder onto it. The solder sucker is good also. You need to make sure that the wattage of the soldering iron is not above 35 watts or you will ruin the circuit board.
