I was wondering how necessary it is to have a battery insulator. I remember ripping mine out cause it was ugly. I was reading popular mechanics today and in the back it has car tips and it talked about the battery insulator being important, protecting it from heat and cold. It says you can boil the electrolites right out of the battery without it.
Your fine as long as it is a sealed battery and not a "wet" battery. Increased heat will bring the life of a battery down, but there is enough distance between the engine and the battery that it will not really damage the battery.
