Hi everyone this is a great site. I have read over some of the problems that you have had with your cars but couldn't find the answer to mine. I have a 96 Chev.Cavalier..2.2 ltr auto. the problem is the engine won't exceed approx 2000rpm.Starts surging, smell excess fuel from around air intake, exhaust smells like rotten eggs when surging takes place. Have already replaced the fuel pump but it still does it. Any idea what is going on?
did you check your fuel filter it may be plugged
that rotten egg smell is probably coming from your catalytic converter. it could be clogged.
Have already replaced the fuel filter, and new muffler and catalytic. It's like when you accelerate it gets the hiccups then slows down, can't bring it back to speed, have to pull over and restart goes along fine then does the same thing again after it warms up. Approx. 1/2 drive.
try the fuel pressure regulator...?
GO PATS!!!
Spark plugs/wires... may not be getting a good enough spark to burn the fuel... it's a simple fix that is looked over a bagillion times...
^^^ yep...that's my guess.
