i am a noob i understand. i hear a whole lot of different opinions on different engines for my car. i have a 95 cavalier and i dont care what anyone says i love my car and i want to mod it to start i would like to either get a engine or if possible keep my orignal enigne and put on a RWD conversion, I say again if it is possible. Please help
A full RWD swap/upgraded engine is possible, but is far too costly.... it would be cheaper (and safer) to get a Sky or Solstice and do mods on that than do an RWD swap on the Cavi.
To keep the orig engine, you would need to find an S10 w/ the same engine (probably 2.2) and start fabricating/swapping parts... again, its probably not going to be the safest thing, but if done right, would be trick as hell
As far as engines go for FWD, if your car came with the 2.3l, I'd do a W41 (2.3 HO) swap or a 2.4.
If it came w/ a 2.2, either the 2.4 or Eco
The other options are a 3x00 (3100, 3400, 3800, 3800 SuperCharged)
I kno it will be costly but the last thing i want to do is get ride of my cav. as stupid as it sounds that is my faviorite car. and just for kicks how costly is costly? and what about the s-10 alternative? how would i accomplish a foot hold on these mountains
its not like you can do that ovrnight. it will cost more than what you are willing to spend. swap in an ecotec motor. and the get a turbo. you will be set

yeah if you have a high milage motor...you can swap an eco or 2.4l and get it turboed....i think you would be happy with that.
good performance sites are
www.turbotechracing.com
http://www.hahnracecraft.com/
and i think karo at www.carcustoms.net has good parts too.
for other sites jason at www.aplusperformance.com summed it up in this post...

welcome and i wish you luck with your car.

you'll come to find that many of us on this site feel the same way about our j's as you do. hell, if we dont like them for one reason or another then why would we be on here in support of them, lol.
as far as "how costly is costly?" well... lets think about it. if you want to go full custom RWD conversion, you need custom engine mounts, custom driveshaft, some kind of rear end setup(junkyard, or straight out custom) and a way to mount it to the stock points. not to mention moving all of the stuff around in the engine compartment to accomidate the new sideways engine( such as coolant and windsheild washer fluid resevoirs, replacing parts of the fuel line, a new intake piping setup and stuff like that) and thats only just cracking the ice... it sounds easier than it is. its a whole lot of fabrication work. my figure would be in about the(+/-) $2000 range... but i wouldn't really know anything more than cost for parts.. but i would assume spending more than the worth of the car itself($3-5000) wouldn't be out of the question. if you have either the know how or the means to find someone who is willing to do it, than more power too ya. but almost anyone here who understands what's involved with something of this extent will tell you that unless you have the tons of money it will cost to put into this setup, just stick with the FWD. its not so bad afterall

. but by all means it is most certainly possible.
as for an engine swap: if you're lookin for simply a moderate amount of more power than what youve got now, id go with the 2.4... but if youre lookin at doing a bit more of heavy engine modding (stuff like lots of boost) i would reccomend an ecotec swap. it all depends on what kind of power range youre lookin for.
good luck tho
thank you for that information nobody i have ever heard of has ever been that informative. it does sound easy but in the same respect overwhelming, but I am willing to put forth the time and money for it.
not to make fun of you Brian. but you more likley to win the powerball lotto than putting in a V8 into a cavy and making it RWD.
lets be realistic. you are 18 years old. probaly headed off to college. you wont have time or money for this, unless your daddy is loaded with money and he ends up paying for it

save your money
and time, and aggrevation
its not worth it. once you accept the fact that cavs are cheap econo cars and hold no value what so ever you will realize that dumping 20k into a cav to make it rwd is worthless.
value is in the eyes of the beholder...
i wish you the best of luck with it man. and i hope u stick around and show it off if it gets done.

it will be a great learning experience whether it gets completed or not.

tell that to a dealer or when you try and sell the car privately
I dunno, there is a lot of stuff flying around in this thread. Unless you are an expert welder, have some engineering knowledge, have a metal lathe, way too much free time, and a bunch of money to burn, this probably isn't a great idea.
Maybe the best question is what are you trying to do to this car? If you just want to make it fast, you can accomplish this in a FWD application. If you are looking for unique, there are far more practical and cheaper alternatives.
You could spend the time and money on rear wheel drive, but your car will be no better than it is right now...
