what is the difference between a l4 2.4 ld9 motor and a l4 2.4 vin "t" ...
Nothing...
Only between 96-98, 99, 00-02. But most of all three can work fine in each year. Only minor things are different.

VIN "T" is the letter designation in the VIN # for the 2.4 motor in 96-02
LD9 is the rpo code for the 2.4 from 96-02
^ Some VIN letters/numbers overlap. So the RPO code is the best way to designate what engine you're talking about (assuming whoever your talking to will understand the RPO codes).
But many places assume you don't know how to open the hood of your car, let alone identify the engine by looking at it. So they tell you to look for a particular letter in the VIN number. Within a set of years and only for a particular type of car the VIN letters do no overlap, thus you can figure out what engine you have.
