Exhaust
Monday, June 25, 2007 5:30 PM
As you can tell, I am a newbie to the cavy's. I've been working on SUV's for the past 5 years, got bored, so now I switch to cars. Anways, I want to put on a good sounding exhaust and as we all know ebay is the miracle of the i-net, so I was just wondering if this looked good to anyone.

Exhaust

A response would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

For almost $10 cheaper you could get a Turbo Muffler at AutoZone or PepBoys. It would sound the same, get the same gains and it would be cheaper.

Either way, (this is through experience) Slapping a cheap muffler on the already restrictive exhaust on a Jbody will not net anything noticable and will sound like utter crap when it's cold or under WOT. Your better off saving some money and buying a cat back. But as a "sound different" measure, it would work. Your just gonna hate the way it sounds when you hit the gas. (e.g. Killer Beez in a Coffee Can!!!)

So, for a person like me on a budget, what would you suggest I get, I'm thinking around $150 tops? I'm still looking for the nice Fast and the Furious sound lol. Thanks again guys.

For a FATF sound, any muffler would work. It would be cheaper by a few bucks to just buy a Raptor Turbo Muffler or something like that at a auto parts store, then just pick up a tip. It will give you an ok sound when the car is warm. When it's cold though, I wouldn't be flooring it just to save you the ridicule.

So, something like this? Exhaust would work, and then just buy a new tip to put on it? Would this give me the sound im lookin for?

Buy the first muffler you had, go to any muffler shop and tell them you want to build a catback exhuast with 2 1/2 in. pipe. You'll get a great sound and possibly a little better performance. If you cant do all that for under 100 bucks I dont know what to tell you

How does this setup sound?

Mandrel bent, 2 ½ inch pipe with Magnaflow muffler. Flanges and hangers attached. Precision manufactured for excellent fit and easy installation.

Let me know. Thanks!

How much are you paying for it? That is the real question. You can usually have an exhaust shop build you a cat back for cheaper than you can buy one, ship one, and get it welded up.

This is what I have. I like the sound, but I have to admit it gets real mellow at WOT. I am not sure if it is the car, or the fact that I am going so fast the sound can't keep up All jokes aside, I like it because its not obnoxious, but I still get noticed.

ok first things first u get wat u pay for, myself learned the hard way. dont just buy a muffler save ur money for a good aftermarket cat back exhaust. something like magnaflow its expensive but well worth it. i spent 225 on pacesetter cat back and after 2 months of having it there muffler cracked in numerous places on me. good luck

I think you need to be careful generalizing like that. Say someone has $200 to spend on exhaust, they are much better off getting a $200 muffler (which nobody would) than a $200 cat back. And not everyone wants/needs a catback. If you are just looking for a bit more sound (me...)....than a muffler does its job.
