Hey, great site you guys have going here cool....I have a Cavalier 99 with the 2.2 Litre actually it is my wife's car but i am giving her my car and taking hers...Looking for some info i am planning on running a turbo, what is the best way and cheapest way, put a turbo on the 2.2 or swap the 3.4 i see alot of guys are doing this...How much H\P would i gain with the 2.2 with a turbo setup?
2.2 in my opinion is not a great modding engine.
And as far as a 3400... that would be kick ass but I dont think you realize the extent of work you would have to do
(mounts, wiring, diff tranny, tunning)
Best bet would be to swap a 2.4 and even that, you will need a diff transmission. The 2.2 doesnt bolt up.
Idk if they make a turbo for a 2.2 a lot of people have custom things made for that motor.

but if you really want to swap in a new motor a 2.2eco would most likely be your best option since it is not a dead motor (still tons of growing after market support) and its seems like it would be easier then the 3400 swap
ask some of the guys who have turbo'd the 2.2 ohv what their gains where and research the forums here to find out what you wanna do

IMO the 3.4l is not at all impressive. I'd go for the new 3.6l if you were really that adamant about going V6. But yea, you can do some things with the 2.2 or swap for an eco. If you're talking about the bone stock 2.2 running a turbo (stock exhaust too) then you'd be lucky to make 140 at the crank (8psi). You're going to need new injectors, an intake setup, and a full exhaust system to get much benefit from the turbo (then you're probably looking at 190 or more at the crank). You're not going to be able to go past 8psi without new injectors (though their highly recommended for forced induction at all). With technical knowledge, you can build the 2200 up decently with minimal costs.
