Turbo 2200 OHV- Fuel Management Help
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 5:58 PM
Hey guys I am in the process of building a custom turbo kit for my 1999 Sunfire with a 2000 Cav 2200 OHV. I was wondering if I use a FMU for a while till I can get new injectors what boost and fmu size would be good? Would a 10:1 FMU handle ok with stock injectors at 10psi? The turbo kit will have a spearco intercooler, greddy bov, and a garret t3/t4 a/r .50 compress charger. Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it.

Stock injectors will not hold ANY boost, FMU or not.

you can go out to a junk yard and get injectors from any supercharged or tubo car like a cobalt ss or a grand prix gtp both have 36 lb injectors thats enough injector to run small amounts of boost.

I guess we're skipping things like rods, piston, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pumps, exhaust, etc. Boost creep warning!!!!

you can use the injectors with out a tune but you will be running very rich, best thing would be to tune it imo.

Won't need until a bit after 8psi.

stock injectors will hold a small amount of boost. but i woudn't want to run anymore than 5 or 6 psi.

Well, the injectors SHOULD be replaced any way you put it on a 2200, they will hold up to 6psi though.

i would be surprised if they would...

When I tuned my OHV with HPT when all I had was an intake/exhaust... i was running over 100% IDC... I would have been running very lean under boost. You can upgrade to Z24 injectors, (24lbs i think?), and those will be good for the 6 psi or lower (obviously varying on the turbo size but generally speaking...)

thats the thing with a turbo, the leaner you can get without hitting detonation, the more power you will have. you can get a tdo5-h 14b from a talon or eclipse, fab your manifold and other stuff needed and the fuel system should be fine, but keep the boost low. 6psi max.

At WOT you want 11.7 to 12.1 AFR. Usually for a boosted motor you want closer to 11.7 whereas a N/A motor you'd want closer to 12.1 but both are semi-acceptable. And the only way to say whats making the best power is dyno-tuning and adjusting. Just because your not getting detonation doesn't mean ur necessarily getting more power.

I did not have a wideband when I was N/A but I was pretty close to maxing out my injectors completely before any forced induction. Now if your adding more air and not enough fuel to compensate....

If your running a small enough turbo, its possible to get away with a LOW psi and stock injectors but I would not attempt it if you don't have a wide band and monitor it all the time. I still don't think stock OHV injectors will be big enough, with my experience at least.

I'm running 9 psi on a decent sized T3/T4 and I'm hitting approx 80% IDC, if I remember correctly, on 36lb injectors. Granted my head is pretty modified so the port job/valve job help with a lil better air flow... but for the most part, with a boosted system, the stock fuel system just wont cut it.
