Engine Swap 3400 or 3800?!
Monday, November 05, 2007 8:01 PM
Hey guys, I've been on here asking some questions reguarding a custom turbo and fuel management. I've been giving it some thinking and I realize my 99 Sunfire with it's 2000 Cavalier 2200 isn't really worth the effort of turboing or investing much money in it. I was wondering how much do you guys estimate it would cost to get rid of the 2200 and install a 3.4 or 3.8 by a custom shop, just looking for the labor cost not parts? Thanks again for your help.

they better be a hell of a shop too.....i mean that is lot of work, and that kind of thing i would rather do myself, a lot can go wrong if not done correctly

Ya... I figured a shop would be pretty pricey.. I would install the engine myself but I'm not a professional or even close. I've installed turbo kits and some other basic mods but never an engine. I would install the engine myself as a learning experience but I really don't want to try installing the new wiring harness and mess with the computer. I think I'm going to go for the 3400 since it seems the engine is more of a drop in then the 3800 which takes re-enforcing the frame and what not. I could probably install the engine myself and then have a shop do the harness and computer.. I dunno, I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thanks for the input guys.
