Hey guys

I think this guy is full of it, but I wanted to know for sure...

http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/car/483465550.html

In case the link doesn't work, he says the ecotec is mfg by Honda motors.

Any Comments?

everyone says that because of the "tec" part.

for some reason people think that honda owns those three letters. last time a guy told me the same thing, cause of the tec he thought it was made by Honda. so then i asked him about Mitsu's Mi-Tec, Daewoo's D-tec, Toyota's VVt(i) (same thing, different name).

he said they were all made by honda.... i told him he must be right...

Hate to burst your bubble but VTEC is very different from those systems. VTEC uses a third cam lobe, while VVT, and MIVEC(Kia, and Chrysler are copies of Mitsu's system), Use an oil blatter on the camshaft to adust timing. Volvo and Fords CVVT system uses the oil blatter method but only to retard timing and warm the cats up quicker.

The only ecotec that has any resemblence to that is the 2.4 LE5, which has VVT. As far as I know the L61 and LSJ do not have any variable valve timing what-so-ever.

thanks for the info, but i was refering to the fact that they all change the duration the valve is opened in some why or another.

I would ask him if the ECOtec is built by Honda, how come they don't sound like angry bees?

Basically, engine size and design have alot to do with exhaust sound.
