hi, am new to j-body. i am trying to get the most horse power for my car without sinking money into a turbo or haveing the engine rebuilt. i was planning to add the following.
aem intake
magnaflow high flow cat
pacesetter header
aem performance pullys
throttlebody spacer
magnaflow exhaust
am wondering if there is anything else i could add that will give my 1999 sunfire gt convertable any more power? if so what would it be and were could i find the parts? thxs
throttle body spacer has only one use: to be drilled or tapped for a nozzle, such as for n2o or meth injection.
everything you listed, you'd be lucky to see a 12 hp gain AT THE CRANK. to do anything major, you'd need cams, porting and polishing, larger throttle body (although this will hurt your lower end), as well as a real good tune. its rather difficult to make power on these cars without using power adders.

All in all, if you're not interested in spending a lot of money, you won't make any really big numbers. If it's just a budget build, I would do something like this:
Power:
Header, intake, exhaust, pulleys, secret cam swap, tune
Brakes:
Steel braided lines, good brake pads
Suspension:
Sway bars, a good set of shocks/struts, springs
Wheel/tire:
Stock rims or a set of light 16" rims, quality rubber of your choice
Misc:
Relocate battery to trunk, carbon hood.
This would make improvements all around, but won't give outstanding performance anywhere. It's all really the ABCs of each focal point of most project cars, save maybe the hood and battery relocation. From there, you can take any route you want, really.
2010 Honda Fit LX
well its just my daily driver i dont expect mass power out of what i listed. i just want enough to make it a little faster lol so 12 hp is ok with me. i dont plan to race my car. just plan to add a new wing, hood scoops, new whels, and just a little power. just need my car to get me to work and school.
aem intake, get any intake that makes you happy.
magnaflow high flow cat, sounds good or use catco.
pacesetter header, get a ceramic coated header that painted will rust. I know there is one on my 99 z24
aem performance pullys, you mean pulley...and it is an over sized "UNDER drive" alternator pulley
throttlebody spacer, no need, do not buy
magnaflow exhaust, or any other free flowing exhaust

honestly man you can spend $600 on a decent nitrous set up and its well worth the money. and the magnaflow mufflers are awesome if you want a deep tone and its not crazy loud. as for as hood scoops go with a nice carbon hood. hood scoops look kind of cheesy on our cars. good luck with your build and welcome to JBO
thxs that goes to my next question all i can find is the evo hoods that go to 4dr.will they fit a 2dr or is a later year hood fit my car also?????

Turbo is the cheapest power to cost method.
You can get a supercharge on and installed for less than $3K, and for a little more you can do a turbo kit.
Barring that.
I'd reccomend:
-RDFabs cold air intake(there a million times cooler than K&N and one of the founders is a member here)
-4-2-1 Header if mid-range torque is your goal, 4-1 if you want more top end.
-For an easy bolt on I love my Thermal Research Cat-back exhaust, it has a real nice tone to it.
-high flow catalytic converter.
Don't expect much more than 10 even with all those, most your looking at is 15->20 if your lucky.
Still after all that you can do $1000 of the work yourself (intake and exhaust cost roughly installed yourself)
+exhaust welding anywhere from $50->$250
You'll have about $1500 in it for a solid 12 hoursepower. At a cost of $125/horse.
At that much it makes the m45 supercharger kit for your car which is 100% bolt on a STEAL!
$1,649.00 from
Crate Engine Depot M45 Kit
You spend $150 more and gain 40 extra horses. at a cost of $41.00/horse. It is hands down the cheapest horsepower to cost ratio your going to find without throwing explosives in your engine.
Barring that, get some nice wheels+tires, lowering springs and struts then throw on some nice thick swaybars.

95-02 hoods are all the same on the sunfires. 2 and 4 door have the same hoods aswell
ohh, i think i can get better deal on hood then 800$ but to then ya. i was going to put one of those style hoods on a pair of side skirts with the fake vent things. then maybe the fenders with the fake vent built in. i don't wanna bother with turbo or s/c cars engine too old and this a under 3k build. really just want a car that will turn heads with enough power that some dude in a civic hybrid doesn't think he has a chance. ........also its kinda a chick car and am not a chick so ya. gotta work on it a little lol.
just remember when it comes to body kits and hoods you get what you pay for. buy quality so yourr not kicking yourself in the A$$ in a year
ya really dont want a rice car. skip dody kit/hood id stick to just trying to get 15-20 hp more on the car. i mean 20 hp on a car that small would make it more fun to drive lol.
body kit ops lol not dody.

x2.
but if you really do want to dump money into a cavalier... header back exhaust, intake, secret cam swap. then call it a day. no sence in wasting more cash then that.

Hey gang - new to the forums here.
I've got an 02 Sunfire that I've put an intake, header, cat-back exhaust (high flow cat goes on tomorrow - wheee), and I'm just wondering what this secret cam swap is that keeps getting mentioned...
Cheers!

Second one down...
But your car has a 2200 from what I'm seeing in your profile, so it won't work.

There's always a catch...thanks for the info.
hahn racecraft makes a turbo setup for your car. 100x better than a secret cam swap

Just checked the Hahn Racecraft site and they're only listing a turbo kit for 02 and up Ecotec engines. Doesn't seem to be anything there for 02 and earlier non-ecotec models...
I was wondering if i could do the secret cam swap. i read the sticky but doesnt say anything about the 95 2.2L.
It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road

Someone posted in that sticky that it was for 2.4L engines from 96-02 - it's a few posts down. If there are any nifty swaps for the 2.2, I'd be interested to know as well.
I'm the parts manager at a Mazda dealership and I know people are always swapping out this and that from one model to another customizing their rides for good, bad and otherwise, LOL.
