Howdy all! New to the J-Body scene. Just bought a 1986 Cavalier RS convertible and hope to glean as much info about it as I can. Paid $300, but it's not without issues. As previously mentioned it's an '86 RS 'vert, white w/ white top & tan int. 2.8l V6 w/ 4 speed manual, digital dash & power goodies. 127,XXX miles. Last inspection expired in 2004 and it has been hanging around inside a garage ever since. Engine runs well, everything works. (except trans) Owner stated that the trans does not shift properly, said it needs a hydraulic shift pin? I've never worked inside a trans before so if I can't fix it I figure I'll just replace it. Also needs exhaust from cat back. Body is O.K. for something this old, not perfect but nothing major. Top condition is O.K. I don't have any decent pics, (the garage was rather small) I'll have some up when it gets to my house next week. Any specific problems or issues I should be aware of? Thanks to all of you who made this board what it is! Excellent source of info!
Was that from Craigslist? I think I saw it a week or two ago & mentioned to my husband that it would be a great project for someone with time & money! Good luck & welcome!
Why yes, yes it was! I take it you are somewhat local to the area? (nevermind... I see where you are) When I saw the listing I just had to have it. When I looked at the actual car, I wanted it more. I don't think it will take that much $ to make it look decent, but I have yet to really get into it. (I'm having some issues finding some cheap transport to get it to my house) I'm hoping to have it on the road before the summer is over, but it will be at least next spring before it looks close to what it should. Also having a hard time finding parts cars in the yards. I know they're out there but... Thanks for the welcome. I'll keep everyone updated on the project as it progresses.
If I had the time & money, I would have gone for it too! Back in the day I had an '86 & although mine was garbage, I've got a soft spot for the body style
Make sure to post pictures along the way!
