Will my old Grand Am's 2.4L turbo engine swap right in? Will any modification be needed? I really liked the engine but did not like the heaviness of the car it came in. Will I have to use the 5speed tranny that came with it too? Is it true that Cavaliers are lighter than Grand Ams? By how much?
k thnx bye
:-p

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love your car!!!!! Damn you!!!!!!!!!!!!
My supercharged Grand Am ran pretty much what stock Cavalier Z24s can run. Yes there is a great deal of difference in the chassis.
The engine bay in a Cavalier is a little tighter, but everything should bolt right in. The 00-02 Z24 models is what you will want for it to be an easy swap. Doesnt have to be a Z24 but the engine harness will not be for a LD9.
All the mounts should be the same. Axles are surely different. Get some Cavalier ones. Couldnt tell ya if you will have to modify your turbo piping or whatever.
^x2 find a 00-02 quad4 z24 shell with a blown motor and tranny, thats your best bet. you can find rollers all the time. check ebay, craigslist, jbo classifieds, gmsc classifieds.
LOL... come on guys you know I'm not that big of a noob. :-)
Basically I'm stripping out the IRS, front hubs and control arms, engine, standalone, tranny, stealing my sparco wheel and seat, plus hoping to god my volks will tuck proper.... all onto the jbody that I end up getting.
The turbo setup that'll be on the J will be completely different than my N-body, so there isn't any worries about fitment.
I'm just doing this so i can race again.

Im not sure the IRS and front hubs will be easy. The Jbody chassis is completely different from a 99+ Nbody Grand Am. I know you can get the control arms to fit, and everything else. I guess your trying to swap the hubs so you can keep your wheels. I think you can use the same front struts, but Im not sure. Just make sure you use Cavalier axles or you'll have length problems.

I'm sure the driveshaft shop will be able accomodate my needs.
And from looking at the entire thread of this

and this.

says I can do whatever I want with relative ease and not too much frustration.
