There is a 94 Z24 for sale at a garage near my house, new black paintjob with about 133,000 miles on it. I've always liked this generation of the z24 cavaliers but they are really hard to find anymore. I know the owners of the garage well but the individual selling the car is a dealer who has cars on several small lots and rents space at their garage. I know the dealer originally purchased the car for his son, put a new paintjob on it and fixed it cosemetically as it sat for a over a year with an oxidized paintjob. Realizing the car was entirely too fast for his son after two months (probably speeding tickets), he took it away and put it up for sale. I know it is inspected, running, driving and starts up instantly now with a new battery and alternator. I haven't had a chance to talk to the dealer yet as I've been overwhelmed with work.
Honestly, I don't know what to look for in these cars as I have little experience with them. I know there generally reliable as my friend's 94 with a 2.2/auto was still running at 289,000 miles when it was totaled. I am mechanically inclined but sometimes when I'm looking at a car I want; I will overlook problems that will become an issue later down the line. I'm interested in knowing what potential problems to look out for or if I should consider a different cavalier for a daily driver as this is an old performance car. Thanks for your help.
