My junk yard just got in a 02 z24 with a stick. The only 5speed in the whole yard so im going to grab it tomorrow. Now they have tons of 2.4s. Is there a year that is better than another? My car is a 96 2.2 5speed car. Going to be used for dirt track racecar.
2.2 is a totally different engine then the 2.4 you will probably need the whole wiring hardness, pcm and everything from the 02 and transfer it into your car. I do not think anything is universal. I could be wrong. I believe you even need the whole dash and harness inside the car too.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

My car is gutted no dash no lights I was going to grab the harness and computer and Engine off of what ever year is better. Grabbing trans now cus its the Only one there.
keep in mind diff year LD9's either had and isuzu or getrag tranny. this will make a diff in what wire harnes you need. being that youre pulling an 02 getrag tranny, you may as well grab the whole package from the same car.

99-02 has the same block, and heads. If it is out of a J-body. 00-02 any LD9. In my opinion the 99-02 blocks have less core shift than the earlier blocks.
Supposedly the have better oiling and cooling as well. <---Debatable.

that transmission wont fit in your car without cutting the trans mounts off the frame and welding in the getrag style mounts.
Ya I started pulling it and stopped cause its mounts looked different. So ima just get a 2.2 with the 2200 pistons and roll with it. So if anyone has any tips on cheap junkyard mods let me know
