Ok, I just want you guys and girls thoughts and feelings on my suspension setup for AutoX and soon some track days
I have the Tein Basic Dampers (front height at 25 3/8" [varies side to side because of my weight], and rear at 25 3/4" [all the way down]), Addco rear sway bar, front and rear strut tower bars, and motor and trans mounts, and also B&M short shifter. Wheels and tires consist of 17x8 Flik FTD wheels, they are about 18.5 lbs a piece without tires, very non-sticky (340 treadwear
) Hankook Ventus HRII 235/40/17, with plans to upgrade to 245/40 with Toyota Cav fenders and some spacers, with a +35mm offset.
Now my driving style is.................well aggressive, and I can actually use the gas pedal to steer the car, just the opposite of a RWD application (let off the gas to oversteer
)
Let me know what you guys think of this and if you can offer any suggestions for better handling, they would be appreciated.................I just don't wanna mess up the balance of it........................
Race on the Hankook's-- they will not hide your mistakes. Spacers are a bad idea because they put more load on your wheel bearings. Not a bad start, but I'm not a fan of running 17" wheels on our cars for autocrossing. I prefer the better gearing of a 15" wheel combo myself.
You may want to raise the rear back up. This will allow for more shock travel in case you encounter some bumps.
i have my rears all the way down on my teins also and no problems what so ever... but like he said the spacers= bad... but othe rthan that seems almost like my set up..... you'll love autox btw.... i am addicted now.... hehehe
Are you guys saying spacers are for the front or rear or both? I haven't had any issues for 2yrs now with mine in the rear. I'm upgrading my wheel studs all around to be a tad bit longer but other than that they're great.

Coming Soon:HpTunersPro, EagleConnectingRods, WiescoPistons, 13sec2200
I would say first get some 15 inch lightweight rims.

Yeah, the Hankooks, most definetley don't hide anything, I was goin in too hot for the first corner (fast course too, Subies were hitting third), let off too quick, damn near spun but I caught it, I love good throttle response, but after that I just dicked around and kept er' sideways, I wanted to feel above and beyond the limits, to see how far I could push it. Actually the lot we use (Royals/Chiefs Stadium) is damn smooth, too smooth, "slick" asphalt at that. Anyway.............I'm rambling. As for spacers, I would only need like 1mm or 2mm more clearance to run the 245/40's, and I would run that in the front as well as the rear, would that still be too hard on the wheel bearings?
SLO CAV: I've actually been doin it for about a year and a half now, and I could never find a better addrenaline rush.
Also, plans are for not racing this car for ever, I "need" RWD, I grew up on it and miss it soooo much, steering with the throttle is awesome. So lightweight wheels are probably off the list, maybe some stock 16's and some sticky tires, not sure yet.
Anywho, thanks guys, this is why I love the .org
Oh........I'm also gonna be getting a camera, and a car mount soon. So look for some videos of my AutoX adventures
Try finding someone with some stock 15" steelies rusting away and put some RT-615's on there
^^^ That doesn't sound like a bad idea, I just might have to do that.............Thanks
Ok, chew on this one guys............. Tein offers springs for their coilover kits, although you all probably know this. Lets say I bought 2 inch shorter springs for all four corners, therefore effectively, staying at the same ride height would net me greater damper travel. I would keep the spring rates the same, but am thinking about getting slightly higher rates, but not sure about that. I think this is a good idea, but I would love some of you guru's input
Oh, they are the straight type springs.
Here is the site for the springs
Also Tein's Cavalier page
Come's with the Basics'
Front part # SY060-01225
Rear part # SC040-01250
New springs (same rate -2")
Front part # SW060-01175
Rear part # SB040-01200
New Springs (higher rate, +1kg and -2")
Front part # SW070-01175
Rear part # SB050-01200
sweet man thanks for those part numbers on the springs
No prob man
(I do my research), so obviously it is a good idea, I'm thinking that higher spring rates would be better suited to the SS Type Dampers, due mainly to the adjustability.....................damnit I answered my own question.......ah well.
give it up man
wait....... just wait for the return.
had fun this weekend, hope you like the gang we'll all have to go out again sometime. p.s. the after party was off the hook
