I made a trip down to Mason Dixon Dragway today to see how my car would run with the supercharger. Needless to say, I either really suck at driving or my car is flat out slow.
My first run was terrible. i had a hard time getting traction and the car bogged down for some reason. heres the slip from that run
R/T .914
60 2.663
330 6.873
1/8 10.286
MPH 71.54
1000 13.247
1/4
15.77
MPH 90.1
I definitely made a fool of myself on that one. My second run was a little better
R/T .463
60 2.384
330 6.653
1/8 9.937
MPH 72.08
1000 12.9
1/4
15.421
MPH 89.56
Third Run
R/T .615
60 2.441
330 6.589
1/8 9.975
MPH 71.88
1000 12.925
1/4
15.438
MPH 90.33
The thing that really pissed me off was the lack of power in the upper rpms, mainly at the top of 3rd gear. i have a 4 speed auto by the way. the speed would shoot up to 70mph and then just crawl from 70 to 90. Clearly i need to open up my exhaust more. right now i have a pacesetter header, magnaflow cat and 2.25 back from there.
My car was in full street trim, including a sub box in the trunk. 16" z wheels with hankook tires. I'm not happy with these times. I was seeing a constant 9psi of boost the whole way down the track.
So please criticize and tell me what the heck i'm doing wrong
Ouch indeed! 0.5 sec faster only than a bone stock auto Eco.
Yes indeed it is slow, but the time you're loosing on the 60' is huge once reflected at the end of the track. 2.4x won't cut it at all to post decent 1/4 times. You'll need 2.1x or so with the auto. That's the downfall of using normal street tires at the racetrack.
But your trap speed seems to be also pretty low, I pulled 87mph with my bone stock auto. 3mph more only with the S/C and all those mods doesn't sound so good. I'm now still bone stock with only the GM S/C and I can assure you I would gain A LOT more than 3mph over stock. The car is just night and day. How was the temperature outside? You said the 70-90mph gain speed was lacking, can't really comment here because on my car the speedo shoots up equal speed 100-120 or from 140-160. Your tires were inflated to? Your reflash was done on which tire/rim size? You changed your combo after that?
Anything related to audio is just additional weight to slow you down, that's why I don't invest a single $ in that department. Maybe look into investing in a good pair of shoes only for the track to cut down those 60'.
I sadly didn't had the time this season to go and test with only the S/C on but next season I will for sure with couple more bolt-ons.

Work on the 60's and you'll be really close to 14's. A 2.1xx should deffinetely do it.

I don't think its a "lack of power" that is to blame at the higher RPM's in third gear. I think it's more the fact that the gear is so "tall" and takes what feels like forever to climb the tach. I'm sure that you're making enough power to hit 14's , spend some more time at the track and I'll bet you'll be hitting the numbers you want.
I just picked up a B&M shiftplus this morning so that will be going on this week. I'm gonna try to make it back out to the track next saturday and get a few more runs in. I have a set of ls sport wheels downstairs that need new tires. What tires would you guys recommend?
The other thing that bugs is me is how the car bogs down when you mash the gas from a dead stop. A few other people with the supercharger and the reflash were having similar problems. I need to figure out how to get past that problem. The people who were with me at the track could tell that the car bogged down on all 3 of my runs. The first run I just mashed the gas and went. The second run I launched at about 2k and the third run I launched at about 3K. When I launched at 3K, I felt like I got more tire spin, but it didn't feel like the car bogged down as much. I dunno, like you guys said, I need better tires and more practice. Even though my runs sucked, I still had a blast and I'm definitely hooked on going to the track.
Keep torque braking between 2-4k rpms. Just donet mash the gas off the line....thats probably one of the owrst ways to launch. Give your tires a little spin before you get up to the line to clear off any debris. You should eventually pull a decent 60'.

if ya got some spare money. keep an eye out for a yank torque converter. should help out shifting and lauching.

Those 60 foots are killing you !
Did you lower your tire pressure?
S/C Eco shouldn't bog off the line, automatic or not. Not normal on street tires. Do you have the right reflash for your car's spec?

My S/C'ed Eco was auto and it didnt lack power in the upper rpms at all, although for mods I had:
62mm TB
Pacesetter Header
Magnaflow High Flow Cat
Magnaflow 2.25" Cat-Back
AutoTrans Interceptor
Custom WAI
Upper & Lower Motor Mounts
The only thing that was different between my car and your car is that your car has a heat exchanger and mine didnt. Unfortunately i didnt get a chance to run mine at a track and I never will due to unfortuante circumstances. Hopefully you get things sorted out. But I know I was seeing a strong 10psi throughout the entire rpm range.
Same here and I'm bone stock with only the S/C kit for the moment. Pulls equally strong through the full RPM range.

With an auto you must break torque of the line to get going done the track. I bet 2200-2400 rpms will work good as a starting rpm while break torquing of the line. Do not do a burnout on stock tires, just a small wheel spin to remove any debris. Also the B&M will help a lot. You 60 foots are your main problem. You should break into the 14's with practice.

99z for 2015.. I'm back bitches
60' times could be better, but it looks like with an 1/8 mile time under ten seconds you should be well into the 14s.
thanks for bringing back an old thread
not to jack the thread but...15.4 is only .5 slower than a stock auto eco...wtf?? i wish...stock my auto eco ran 17.2. now i do have a fully loaded ls sport 4 door, so its heavy. however my friends lightly equipped 04 sunfire with I/H/E only ran 16.1
