looking to swap a 2.3l engine in to a 2000 cavalier just looking to check if anyone has a quick an simple way to do the swap. found place to reprogram the ecm to program for 2.3l need to know what changes to wiring harnesses and cooling system need to be done
you dont need to do any wiring or ecu changes whatsoever. the 2.3 will run on the 2.4 harness and ecu just fine.
what you DO need is a 95 2.3 alternator. it bolts to the 2.3 block (2.4 one doesnt) but plugs into the harness like the 2.4 one. has to be the 95 2.3 specificly though.
basically you just run the stock injectors and rail/lines. if you want to match the size of the injectors to the HO 2.3 (310cc) youll need to get the gm supercharger kit's set. they are an easy find... just put up an ad in the classifieds and i bet you have someone contact you within a week that has a set for sale. if not, the stock injectors will work just fine they will just need to probably be turned up some. you cannot use the stock 2.3 injectors because they are low impedance. your 2000 runs on high impedance.
then the only other thing you'll need to do is buy a threaded adapter for the knock sensor. the 2.3 block uses the old fat style that has a larger thread. the 2000 uses a smaller knock sensor with a smaller thread. use the search in the performance section to find out the exact adapter you need. its easy as pie to install.
you'll use the 2.3 intake manifold and throttle body as well as the exhaust manifold. have an exhaust shop hook the exhaust to it and you should be good to go after a tune.
It's nice to be injected but I love being blown.

You need to tune for the larger injectors...minimally adjust the injector constant.
Also the thermo-stat housing and sensor...

So can any one tell me if i can put a stock 2000 2.4 in place of a 1995 2.3
Can you yes, use all the 95 sensors. the biggest hurdle is the intake manifold, and knock sensor.
