metro. I am trying to do some research to see what motor I can transplant into my 1997 metro. If I am correct in australia they have the suzuki swift with a GTI motor and in japan there is the suzuki cultus with an AWD setup. I have seen the 9 second metro video..
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/fc6aef78-fa26-4ea9-9a59-bf55c0a43387.htm so I know about swapping a grand national motor in there. The thing is this is going to be my daily driver and I put around 550 miles a week on the daily. The weekend toy is the neon srt4 as it will be 550whp and 560-580wtq so too much money into that one to be my 550 mile a week car. So grand national swap is out of the discussion, but I was thinking of swapping a ecotec or z24 motor into the car and boost it. Has anyone seen this done or know where I can find out what all has to be done? I was also thinking of a SR20 motor swap seeing that I have a place to put a drive shaft(remember its actually awd in japan). I mainly want something reliable that I can put miles on since I will average 30k a year just driving it to work and back.

yup seriously...the z24 motors are easy to come by down here and I have seen a few ecotecs in the junkyards with hardly any damage if any done to the front clips. Its just something different that I thought I may do. I should have kept the rhd toyota cavy I had....oh well I may get a rhd toyota cavy and make it my daily....dont want to go through the crap again getting another though.

if youre driving that much why not just stick to the three banger, economy motor?
There are cheaper and easier ways to make a "fast" daily driver. Using almost any Geo platform isnt the way dude.
you should do the eco 2.4vvt swap and boost it
fast metro but too bad they had to gut a GNX for it sad sad day
Suzuki Swift GTI DOHC head on top of the Suzuki esteem 1.6L 16valve block. Run some high compression pistons (JB) and a nice set of cams. (you can also use the 1.6L crank and rods in the 1.3L block, but the crank needs to be machined)
If you want to go turbo, then the extra stroke on the 1.6L would not be such a great idea. I'd stick with the Suzuki Swift GTI 1.3L DOHC motor, and boost the snot out of it.
The Turbo 1 liter 3 cycle motors can make a fair amount of power too. With proper tuning, and bumping up the boost, they do run pretty quickly. If you went this route, I'd stick with a turbo 3 cyl from a MK2, instead of the 1st gens.

if he has the car already which are cheap to come by
and gets all the @!#$ he needs from the junkyard for cheap
i dont see how there are very many cheaper ways to do so

lets do the math..
light car+ good amount of power= fast car (as long as he can get traction of course)...
You know, if you want a 2.4 or an Ecotec in your ride for a daily driver, why not just spend the money in order to get a j-body instead of spending the money to transplant one into a metro? But whatever man, it's your choice.
Hmm interesting topic...if I do a swap in my Cav I might just see if my buddy wants to put my 2200 in his Geo
