looking to see what 08-09 silverado owners think of their truck. Im on the verge of picking one up....possibly as soon as tonght or tomorrow.
What do you like and dislike about it? what's your model/size, etc?
I know one thing people have complained about is the brake lights going off when you let off the brake pedal even though you're still brakeing.
also any good forums you can link me to?
any input is appreciated!
getting rid of the Benz Joe?
Desert Tuners
“When you come across a big kettle of crazy, it’s best not to stir it.”
not sure yet. I've thought about keeping that as well. It will all come down to the final cost of the truck, and wether or not I feel like having 2 payments. If that were the case, I'd have 4 cars for 2 people, lol.
then, once the cav is sold, im gonna pick up another project truck
im gonna say 2 things
they are made of cheap plastic and rattle..........75% of the complaints we get are some kind plastic rubbing on plastic noise.
I would personally go with something else, nissan or toyota wink wink
the other thing
they are @ their cheapest right now cause of the employee discount, but then so are all the other trucks out there.
as for fuel mileage, they get 2-3 mpg better than the competion cause of the cylinder deactivation stuff, which when it goes bad(atleast one every 2 weeks) its expensive and your down about 3-4 weeks waitin on parts
just my 2cents
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
thanks for that input snowman!! can you elaborate at all on the cylinder deactivation issues?
as far as plastic rattle, the interior would most likely be gutted and fiberglassed, etc.
also, there is no chance I'd ever buy a Toyota or Nissan truck. Or even a ford or dodge really. I'm a GM guy for the most part. I would look at a ford or dodge over a toyo or nissan though.
thanks again man!
jo3y the nw tundra is awesome im a gm fan myself id buy n older gm in a heartbeat, these newones are ugly and are cheaply made the tunra has a blueprinted 350 in it so it basially has a chevy heartbeat. lol.
my dad has had f150 after f150 for work, and i tell you, we have had absolutely no problems with anything whatsoever
it wont be the fastest truck, however
the silverado has a little more umf too it
thanks for the input guys.

IDK where you're getting this from. The GMT900's are awesome trucks and have class leading interiors and build quality, yes even better than the Tundra which has the aesthetics of shopping cart.

hey, thanks for that link Martin!!!
there pretty solid trucks compared to the gmt 800 only problems we get down here are fit and finish and some stupid people panic when the low tire light comes on, and don't know what to do about it.
I will say one thing though, down here, south texas area we have seen a string of bad fuel pumps on the flex fuel models though. I'm assuming flex fuel pumps can't handle dirty gas, only noticed on cars who basically buy gas from corner stores. I've noticed the ones that put gas at bigger stations, ie shell, exxon, mobil, and bp tend not really to have this problem with pumps.
i'm being dead honest hear, and I haven't seen a gmt 900 here more than 1 day.
Btw i love how in the link you posted they gave a score to the chevy in saftey but everythign else was left N/A
a lil biased......huh
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
i dont know anyone with a 08 but my friend has a 94 with with 4.3 v6 with 250k on it and he has a 04 LT with about 30k on it and he said gm is the only truck he will buy. for it being a big truck its really nice on the inside and its ride is nice. i would pick one up if i could.

As for class leading.......lol i get more dash complaints then anything.
And when you call tac and the fix is remove dash, shake well and reinstall i just laugh
Or where the doors rub the weatherstripping on te roof and it makes this awful itch noise
and the fix is to put tape on it
or loose door panels to put foam strips behind them
The new chevys were rush released to compete w/ the foreign trucks.
Its funny how most new features on the trucks are copied from something else,
Mostly the titan, i.e. the rear opening doors that fold to the bed, the general layout of the front bumper allowing the end pieces to be color matched.
Btw
Anyone can write an article praising something.

*yawn* Nevermind the tundra wasn't tested along the Silverado, but nice try tho. Also, the trucks came out about 2 years ago, so how many have you worked on?
considering that our number one seller is a 4 door duramax dually.....im gonna say at least 2 a day, gotta love livin in the country
i personally dont care what ya pick joey, your the one whose gonna drive it, so you might aswell like it.
I love my titan, and my parents love their Tundra
btw we have not had a titan or a tundra traded in here in the past 2 years,
but if you go drive by the toyota dealership and tell me how many chevys/ford dodges are there.
We also buy our used cars @ the dealer auction, Mostly from the local toyota dealership
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
Some mention that the GMT-900 were rushed and that is correct. It was rushed about 10 months to early.

Lastly, if you trade the ol' Benz for one of these, it would be a VERY smart move.
Also the new Rams looks to be very interesting too.

-----The orginal Mr.Goodwrench on the JBO since 11/99-----
Since you're dead set against the Titan it won't matter, but I bought a 2008.5 LE Crew Cab with everything except navigation and the DVD system for $24,400 (leather, Rockford Fosgate stereo, steprails, power everything, heated seats, rear sonar, etc). The MSRP was $37,100. They have something like a 300 day inventory left and are really trying to move as many as they can.
So far I have no complaints about the truck. I like it more than the 2001 Silverado Ex Cab I used to have.
well, going to pick her up tonight at 6:30. Can't wait to start modding it........already ordered a couple hundred worth of parts
I'd say @!#$ the trucks go with an acura rdx or infinity fx
I personally would like to seewhat you'd do with one.
i actually was really interested in an FX35, but i've wanted a silverado as long as I can remember and the deal was too good to pass up.
but once the cav is sold(if ever, lol), I may look into an FX35 a little more and mod that and leave the silverado as a DD
I have an 07 new body style and I love it. The only thing I've had a problem with is the seats get so god damn linty. Its only a problem on the black interiors. The fact that a wire harness for a new radio is like $150 sucks too but oh well. When I turn this one in (its a lease) I plan on buying an 05-07 classic duramax though.
sweet, so are you trading the benz in/towards this or no?
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
dad's got a 08 2,500 w/ the duramax and allson tranny. it's a kick ass truck. pulls everything. heated seats/mirrors rule. i personally love it
