This is a joke though, cars like these could be donated to good will for unfortunate people that cannot afford to purchase cars, or even the junk yards to stimulate the economy on buying the used parts as well. This just goes to show that things are getting way to pollitical.

Another douch bag Obama basher... Learn what the program is about before you start bitching about something you don't know about.

This dealer in the vid is in the wrong. The dealership is supposed to send the cars (Clunkers) to salvage yards where they dismantle the car AKA take apart and sell the good parts... from there the car is scraped once everything is off thats salvageable

From my understanding the "clunkers" is supposed to be destroyed immediatly. I read in a news paper that salvage yards were complaining that quality parts are being destroyed because the clunkers have to be crushed. Just seems like such a waste in my books. I'm sure a decent percentage will do this because they think that they can afford the car payment then bamm reposessions. But only time will tell I guess.

What happens to the vehicle I trade in?
The CARS Act requires that the trade-in vehicle be crushed or shredded so that it will not be resold for use in the United States or elsewhere as an automobile. The entity crushing or shredding the vehicles in this manner will be allowed to sell some parts of the vehicle prior to crushing or shredding it, but these parts cannot include the engine or the drive train.

http://www.cars.gov/faq#category-16

And they don't sell the engine or drivetrain to keep the gas guzzlers off the road... everything else is fair game

Mr. Kleindl Pro-Obama douchebag the program crushes the cars with no chance to be salvaged. That's all you need to know. The metal is recycled, although it's murky how that's being done because the cars are now property of the U.S. government once turned in and NEVER allowed to return to U.S. roads ever again in any form. Once the clunker leaves the dealer lot nobody knows what they are doing to them. If it's just to recycle the parts that can be then tell me this...My sister traded her explorer and I wanted her leather seats and the dealer told her no the car must be 100% complete. Which seems odd if the car is being recycled.

How do you recycle leather? And foam rubber?

Your ignorance is bliss. These cars will either be crushed into little cubes that will rot in piles for years to come (a waste, and bad for Obamas so-called green agenda) or billions upon billions of dollars in very viable parts that could be used to stimulate the economy, reused, and help people hit hard by the economy fix their cars for very cheap...helping the little guy...you know what Obama claims he's all about. Even if they are stripped to "only recyclable parts" then crushed and melted down....what do you do with the all the material that can't be recycled? Land fill? ...where it will impact the environment later
Burn it? ...where it will fill the air with toxic chemicals
Again bad for Obamas so-called green agenda.

In reality the C4C program should have been limited to purchases of GM, Chrysler, or Ford. So at least in terms of the first 2, we the taxpayers could start to see a return on all the money WE were forced to give them in waste. Obama bailed them out because the little bitches cried they'd never survive a bankruptcy. Turns out they could, and did. And in turn they now never have to pay back the U.S. tax payer because they DID file a BK.

Either way it's a total fail. And so is Obama.

And by the way Pro-Obama douchebag, thanks for being lazy and letting the news & media hype pick your president for you…instead of pro-actively investigating all candidates and they’re stances on issues. And don’t claim you did in retrospect, because if you did you would not have voted for Obama. And if you did and still voted for him you're a bigger idiot.
Before you try label me anti-obama douche or republican fanatic. I’m not a republican, I’m not a democrat…I’m an American. Like Dave’s video I vote on issues NOT based on hype, party affiliation, or the guy all the celebrities like (like their opinion matters). I'm so happy for you that you were part of history. Thanks to your votes and support Obama is the first president of his kind, in U.S. history. The first communist president.

Yes the cars MUST be complete at trade in. You can't just take the seats out before trade in .. seriously who does that? Go pay 20 bucks for those @!#$ty things..

No you can't recycle seats thats why you SALVAGE THEM... You know at those places called salvage yards? Where do you think the cars get crushed at? Do dealers have the machines in their parking lots?

And FYI... I didn't vote for Obama... I give him the benefit of the doubt for only being in office for 6-7 months and still trying to get the country back on its feet since the last administration destroyed everything that we had going good...

This program was just a good way to get people on the lots looking again and from that point its a complete success.

Jookycola, take a chill pill. Read the bill and you'll see they can't sell the engine and drivetrain, rest of the car is fair game to be sold off.

Actually, he is right. (almost).

The dealerships have a slight say before they go to the yard.

Most dealerships around here though, are sending them right to the yard. Everyone wants the metal.....

Jookycola - This is one of the few things I agree with you on.

Look at the health care refrom bill. Go ahead and read it. You think the government can handle the health care for everyone? They cant even handle a 1 Billion dollar cash for clunckers program. In the bill the government controls who lives and dies. You think that should be able to control when you can have children? How about having acess to your bank account to pay for medical bills? How about losing your correct healthcare plan from your employeer? The list goes on and on. Everyone should really read the bill to find out what really is in there. Not let the media control you and go on like a fool acting like everything you hear on the tv is true.

Proof?
the car cannot be salvaged at all all parts are to be recycled, not sold to salvage yards. Show me proof that salvage yards are benefiting from this.

Mr. Kleindl wrote:Yes the cars MUST be complete at trade in. You can't just take the seats out before trade in .. seriously who does that? Go pay 20 bucks for those @!#$ty things..

And why exactly should the car be complete on C4C? It's not going to be reconditioned and sold on a used lot....They don't need the seats. Common sense tip: you don't take the seats out of a car you're going to trade-in (as in will be re-sold), but you would grab the seats out of your car if it was a total loss and heading to the junk yard. So why do they need the car complete? It's officially a junked car the second you sign off on it. You make no sense?

And yes i am familiar with Salvage yards, but these cars and their parts are not going to be salvaged, they are being crushed and recycled. Show me where it says the parts will be salvaged before the car gets crushed/recycled. i want to see the passage in the bill you all are refering to that says that.

And don't say the country is awful because of Bush, it's awful because Clinton didn't do a damn thing in his 8 years. He drove this country like a bad rental car all he did was leave it with a half full tank. Then Bush came along and had to fight with a democratic ran senate that fought him on everything, so he gave up and didn't do anything either. If you think it's all because of Bush and the evil republicans, then you are too ignorant to talk politics. Most of our biggest problems started when the democrats took over senate majority. They make the laws, and write the bills not the President.

Mr. Kleindl wrote:Another douch bag Obama basher...

This gives you lots of credibility.

This program is a disaster. It's just another spending bill that they f&%ked up right out of the gates, because they were more worried about their agenda: forcing sales of smaller cars up so they could have the market trend excuse when they make GM and Chrysler start dropping gas guzzlers.

The rules are that the engine must be completely disabled, which is why the sodium silicate mixture is poured into them. From there, the rest of the parts can be salvaged, but the car must be crushed and scrapped no later than 6 months from the date of trade in.

Now, given the number of vehicles that are being disposed of in this way, what exactly do you think the consequences are going to be to the used engine market, as well as the used car market? It's already predicted to cause a 5-10% increase in used car prices.

Not to mention the fact that they way underestimated the popularity of giving away $4500. Gives you lots of confidence in letting them spend other money, doesn't it?

that and the fact that they had to hire 300 people to do the backlog of paperwork. Also these people are just on contract until its caught up then bye bye no more job. I think its Chase or some other big bank that is doing this. Pretty sad in only a weeks time they are this far behind. Shows how great are government is and how far they think ahead.

Way to misquote me out of context. You fail. If i'm making ignorant comments then prove me wrong...they are not going to salvage yards to be salvaged, they are going to be junked and crushed. that's why i ask for proof or the passage from the bill that shows what i'm saying is wrong.
I'm not above admitting that my claims are wrong so long as someone can prove it outside of trying to debunk me with foolish sideways comments, meant to be funny and biting at the same time.

If I'm so ignorant then prove it.
