GM says that the Volt will go 40 miles without using gasoline. The quote from CNN tells the story better I think.
"So let's say the car is driven 50 miles in a day. For the first 40 miles, no gas is used and during the last 10 miles, 0.2 gallons are used. That's the equivalent of 250 miles per gallon. But, if the driver continues on to 80 miles, total fuel economy would drop to about 100 mpg. And if the driver goes 300 miles, the fuel economy would be just 62.5 mpg."
gotta love creative advertising
still 62MPG is damn good!

yeah , but a metro was close to that 10 years ago , LOL
wonder how a diesel motor would do in the volt over the gas

Yeah and that is a 300 mile commute. If anyone has a 300 mile daily commute than they might need to look into moving closer to work or something. lol
It needs a Diesel to power the electric motor. Like a train !

i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
hmmm now they need to calculate the extra high electric bill from plugging it in all the time, and use that as a correction factor on the mpg rating.
mileage could be unlimited mpg considering most people live less that 40 round trip from work.
That's still extremely impressive be it limitless mpg or 62 mpg. Seems unfair to really rate it because it can vary so much based on situation.
Really, I love how it looks and can't wait to see it in more colors then just silver!
Get a custom 240v Solar generator and the thing is next to cost free. BUT to think about it is truly impressive.
I have a decently far commute to work everyday.... (75km). This thing does a minimum of 40 to 60 miles on electric power alone. THIS means I can plug it in @ work, and drive home for free. My fuel costs are nearly non existent. Awesome if you ask me. Quite an impressive car.
