So I got into a fairly small accident yesterday with my 97 Sunfire. I need a new bumber, radiator, fender and hood. Not too bad, but I also fudged up a mag and tire - not covered by insurance. So the deductible is $500, plus the rim and tire - I`m looking at around $750-$1000 out of pocket plus a claim to my insurance, for a $2000 car. I decided its not worth it - cuz the car has a few problems too - like 300KM/tank (terrible milage!) and an electrical problem I fear might have been exacerbated by the accident. So I`m taking the opportunity to get a new car.
Ive been looking at a
2006 Pontiac G6 GTP
and a 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged
Those links are just a few I found that are tempting. I like the 2 door sporty look (must be manual) and am looking for suggestions, opinions. I found a G6 GTP for $8,000 privately, and I asked the owner about its history, he said it was in a small accident on the passenger side but it wasnt a VGA (french: véhicule grave accidenté, meaning it isnt a serious collision). What is your opinion on that?
Yup so thats where Im at, comments suggestions. Open to other car models, brands, things to look out for etc. Thanks.
(Link doesnt seem to be working for the Cobalt because the url has a french E in it, so heres the link to copy paste

The G6 is a much nicer car IMO, but there is not as much aftermarket support for it.
Well,
1) This should be in "other cars" forum
2) The balt is good ofr modding, the G6 for everyday driving.....

Please look for this post in the other cars forum when the mods are able to move it
cobalt would be cheaper and faster but the g6 GTP would be more comfy and nicer
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
gtp for a nice dd
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
I'd go with the GTP anyday! Much more comfy, roomy and the power is good. Just prepare to change your brakes every 20 000 km. lol
Two very different cars. I'll say I'm not a fan of the 3.9 90* V6 offered in the GTP, nor am i a big fan of the 3.5L 60* V6. They are both old-tech engines compared to the "high feature" DOHC V6s found in GM cars now. They are reliable enough, but do not have the same specific output, nor the MPG as the newer powerplants.
That said, Are you looking for something to modify and have fun with or just a driver? My vote for both would be the cobalt, but in reality the gtp will be roomier and more comfy as mentioned.
Cobalt hands down... it has soul
i never rally heard much about the 3.9l i hear they can put down good power and can get the cars into the mid to low 14s with bolt ons. the 3.5 if not a bad motor. my mom had it in her 05 malibu maxx and that was a nice motor. it had plenty of power to move that car and got good gas miles. if the g6 had the awful 3.4l thats in my moms equinox i would not go near it that is a junk motor.
GTP. You'll get more head spins, more ladies, and have a lot more money saved considering you can't dump an easy 10k+ into it with reg mods. I'd get it, slam it, wheels, tint, exhaust, intake, and just drive it dude.
N2O + Bolt-ons

Coming Soon:HpTunersPro, EagleConnectingRods, WiescoPistons, 13sec2200
3.9 makes really good power, intake and exhaust tune it up a bit, nice and quick

dont get a g6 you will regret it.. I hated my gtp slow as balls no aftermarket and for what is out there its expensive as balls

The 3900 is a 60 degree V6. It also has VVT.
Here are some performance stats to give you an idea.>>>>
Clicky
That one that you're showing is rare as it has the 6-speed manual.
Oh and hands down G6 GTP > Cobalt SS S/C.

speed isnt everything a car that can run mid 14s is quick enough for a daily driver
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
dont get the GTP if you like performance... high 14's stock and mid to low 14's with bolt ons is slow as balls in comparisons to whats out there. hell even my 2010 V6 Camry SE ran a 14.3 stock and could be well into the mid 13's with simple bolt ons. the cobalt isnt a great car by any means, it just feels cheap... but at least you can get the cobalt ss into the 13's for cheap...
performance is more than straight line acceleration, its handling, braking, the balance of the car, driving position, alot of things
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
ether way the cobalt ss/sc still has the gtp beat in any performance test lol
I think the the G6 coupes are ugly... just my opinion, sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings. I'd take the Cobalt any day of the week
Hmmm - a lot of interesting comments. I`m open to other suggestions my 3 main criteria are 1)Manual Transmission 2) Sporty looking 3) under or around $15k CDN
VOLVO S60R more class the the gtp and the cobalt......and wont fall apart at 75k and rattle to death
Volvo S60R is swwwwwweeeettttt... way nicer than both those cars especially the G6
I would go cobalt, you can get a bigger charger pully or a new high boost charger, intake, exhaust incl headers, and that car will rip, take care of it and replace busings and wheel bearings as the go bad-don't put off once they start-everything else will break adding to the repairs, you'll have yourself a fast, sporty, comfortable(appropriate mods), fun to drive car. I wouldn't buy a volvo, if it breaks its expensive. and definately don't listen to kevo he's a honda guy (just mad the ld9 makes more power than a b18/b20, and the cobalt ss more than a k20) doesn't even have a J. Recently I aquired a g6, it has a 2.4 LE5 in it though, so idk what the gtp runs/feels like, with the lx and lz motors, but this one is very smooth and quiet going down the road, and if you do get a g6 find one with the f40 trans(6speed manual) and lz9 (3.9L) i would imagine that would be fun. overall they're both nice cars, cobalt faster and more fun, and more upgradeable though
