his budget right now is nothing, but we're both interested in doing it up right. I told him I'd do the exterior work that I can for nothing, and I'd do some bolt ons and maybe a little more if he buys the parts. Right now the aim is to get the body cleaned up, get new headlights, and clean up all the adhesives from the wicked bad-ass tribals the previous owner had on there.

Holy mess of an engine bay batman! Somebody needs to clean that up...the placement of the alternator trips me out it's just like "Hi!"
Priority of vision in the engine...First thing noticed ALTERNATOR
Next thing noticed....INTAKE
and finally....WIRES!!
...omg at the wire loom. It's like a bad 80's sci-fi flick.
But should look good once it's all cleaned up.

Yes, I agree. The engine bay is a HUGE mess, and its the second detail on the list of things to do. Thankfully, the first one is almost done: Cleaning up the exterior. I got the sticker off the back window, and cleaned off almost all the adhesive that was on the body from the tribals. The weather turned sour before I could turn my attention to the pin striping and door mouldings, but I did manage to remove the bucket full of dirt out of the air filter housing. I have no idea where he's been driving this car, but the dirt got everywhere. The interior, the engine bay, in the broken up rear fender lining (now removed), I strip the interior, clean it, and put it back together it looks so bad. So for I've convinced him to get a B&M Shiftplus (since they're only about $30 + shipping from Jegs), and a K&N intake kit.
More pics once I finish shaving all the badges/mouldings and restore the headlamps.

Bitch about the look of the alternator placement on the 4.6 until you have 2 fail in the life of your car... 10 minute job. I LOVE that alternator placement lol.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

^^^ A very good point. Did two more things this evening: Pulled some screen door mesh out from in front of the radiator, and removed the pin striping. Looks a hell of a lot better without it, leaving three more little things to deal with on the exterior side. Then the engine bay gets some serious attention.

Recently tried to lift the saggy font bumper. The body screws are in really tight and will not come out easily. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I may start the shaving of the door mouldings and glue the headlamp plastic back together (got the duct tape off and the adhesive that baked on cleaned off thanks to a co-worker's suggestion: Medical adhesive remover. It also removed most of the pin stripe adhesive.) tomorrow. Okay, so that's technically today, but who's counting? After that, I really need this guy to start making money to get much else done with this thing.

I'd change the alternator every summer just for the hell of it. Send it to chrome! lol
You might want to hit the screws with some PB Blaster or Deep Creep before taking them out.
WOW... now that brings me back. my mom had one identical to that one. i got to drive it all the time when i was 14 and 15 before i got my first vehicle. it was a blast, i beat the piss out of that thing! LOL
they are fun as hell in winter.

Wish I'd have read that before I started fixing it! Pulled one out yesterday and DAMN! There was no thread until the end of the screw, the rest had rusted all the way down to a fine strip. The two that are stuck are also completely stripped, so I'm going to take a flathead screwdriver to them and hope that works with one of the above products. It seems some of the bumper clips broke which is why it sags.

Yeah, we did a couple runs it it before he had to take the insurance off. Lots of fun when no one thinks there's a big V8 hiding under the hood.
Now, it seems a previous owner has an on/off switch mounted just under the steering wheel. Just noticed it yesterday. It has one wire running from a LED to what I assume is the rest of the wiring for the various dash lights. Then there are two that disappear directly under the steering wheel into a black plastic casing that appears to be a stock piece of the car. I tried flicking it on and off while the car was idling, and it made no difference, and tried revving a bit with it on, then off, and nothing. Anyone have any idea what this is? Its clearly someone's hack job, as I can see bad splice work on the LED wire. The LED responds to the on/off switch, so it has to do something.

just a point but there is no big v8 there, gmc used to make a 6cyl that was bigger (305) and my 02 trail blazer made mroe power. that being said i love the potential of those cars, keep up the work

Well, work we shall. The guy who I'm holding the car for just got a job, and we'll be tossing a bit of money into it in 2-3 weeks. A lot of little things are in order, then we'll be hopefully starting to get some power mods going. I have no service records other than an oil change, so I'm going to change the spark plugs and fuel filter (I'm leaning towards a K&N intake kit for it, so the panel filter will stay as is for now). A new windshield is in order, as there is a huge crack in it (won't pass inspection as is), and the bumper needs to be readjusted and maybe replaced.

Any requests? I have Friday off to do whatever I want, and I was planning on working on the car some more anyways. The body is in a bit of a between stage (side mouldings are gone, but I need to remove the adhesive, and the front bumper is 2/3s of the way off), but anything you want to see from the 90s blue interior to the dirty underside or my handiwork in progress I will gladly take pics of. Might start wire tucking this weekend depending on the weather. I'd love to do a battery relocation (since there is enough trunk space to fit a moose in there) even just to change the dirty old corroded battery wires.
