Some time ago, I learned that the S-10 truck platform saw continued production in South-America after it was dicontinued here. And that it recieved a choice of Ecotec's, which we never did.
This infuriated me, then made me wonder "What if I could just as easily put an Ecotec in my truck using factory parts, just like the J-car guys do with their rides?". So, thanks to membership on another forum & the off chance that someone in Brazil wrote-in needing help, I'm currently working with someone to try to make it happen. The problem is, when we started sending each-other pictures & links to pics of the engines involved with what I've been speaking of, it seems that what's available there don't match what's here. Now, I'll admit: I haven't seen many Ecotecs before now, but I think from what I've seen I could easily identify one by it's timing-cover... and from what I've read, they're pretty-much the same the world over. But stilll....
So now, I turn to those of you here for help:

what you are looking for is considered a gm family 2 engine, commonly know as the l61 or z22se in other parts of the world
they were only available in:

but i have never seen the ecotec thats in cavalier's in anything but a front wheel drive compact with the exception for skys and solstices.
depending on the 2wd or 4wd nature of the s-10 i would if 2wd get a solstice transmission and possibly engine mounts, fab up a trans mount and get a custom driveshaft. i believe, dont quote me if im wrong the t56? trans is shared between the solstice and the newer colorados, with the exception on the bell housing. as far as wiring you would either have stand alone, a cavalier harness with hptuners, or a hybrid of the 2.
There is a guy on ecotecforum that has swapped a eco into his first gen pickup.....looks sweet.
(Sigh) Snowman, I think you're right... I should have figured that a South-American country full of Latinos that speak Portugese would be using some European engine in their trucks. Especially since the guy I'm in-contact with is from the United Kingdom, and happens to be working on an S-10 with a 4.3L Vortec! Such irony, huh? My main concern is really if the mounts they use down there will work with what we have up here... because trans-mounts & driveshafts aren't a problem.
I do thank you for all the info, as anything that makes this easier to accomplish is very helpful. But in-light of what you started with, I think maybe I should just buy a set of the mounts & isolators just to see if they can be directly used... Hopefully. Does anyone know what the exchange-rate between Brazil & the 'States is right now?
BTW: Since my '99 has the later, Delphi "Silver-box" VCM... I'll look into if I can reuse that with a Solticw/Sky automatic harness & trans. That model gets used in so-many different things, what you wanna bet it's just a reflash away from such an app?
