my Cav is not Vista compatible (HPT)

I thought AZSpitfire (Todd) was gonna post up, but I guess not... lol

we had some issues getting HPT to work correctly on my '02 Z24 for my Eco swap. we do know now that there is a difference between the '02 Eco PCM and the '03+ PCM, in that we cannot do a "write entire" to the '03+ PCM using an '02 tune. we've basically wasted 2 PCM's and the credits to go along with them. lessons learned...

however, one of our troubleshooting steps was to switch HPT from Vista to XP and try it again... and it worked. it also seems that there's an HPT version issue. here's the breakdown:

XP:
v.1.8 - worked
v.1.9 (beta release) - did not work
v.2.0 - did not work

Vista:
v.1.8 - possibly worked, need to confirm
v.1.9 (beta release) - did not work
v.2.0 - did not work

so everyone knows, when I say it did not work, HPT would not read the PCM, and therefore, would not flash it. also, from what I gather, the v.1.9 beta release was to try and fix our locked '03+ PCM's (probably along with other fixes).

just wanted to put the information out there.

I'm not laughing at you Jarrett... but that's some funny ish! Glad you got your issues worked out though.

I think HPT says on their site that its not Vista compatible. I don't think the drivers for the interface work in Vista, even though Vista will install them.

we're gonna do some more checking. I believe we did have 1.9 or 2.0 working on a '01 LD9 Sunfire.

from their website:

Recommended Requirements:
Windows 2000/XP or Better
800 MHz PC or Laptop
256 MB of RAM

also, we couldn't get the 1.9 or 2.0 updates to work on my PCM in XP.

Thats strange... I'm using 2.1.6ish on my laptop and have programmed probably half a dozen ECU's with it no problem.

yeah, like I said... 1.8 (which I'm guessing would be 2.1.8) worked. as we didn't have any earlier versions, we didn't try this out.

I should probably put this in here too...

I purchased an '02 Eco PCM from eBay that was flashed to the VIN from the tune that we previously licensed that I wanted to use. HPT is still wanting us to license the PCM, so there must be an unique identifier apart from the VIN that HPT uses.

Yes there is, there is a serial number inside each ECU. They did this so you couldn't just change the VIN and flash all the cars you wanted.

that's what we figured.

I think we're going to try messing around with it again this weekend. any combinations (OS, HPT versions, motor combos) you'd like us to try? just for knowledge-gaining?

I'll have my Eco-swapped Z, there will be a '01 auto LD9, and a S/C Eco with the GM S/C flash.

The S/C Eco won't work, and I know the other two will...

I think you can get HPT to re-compile the two drivers for FTDI under Vista if you ask nicely

eh... we'll stick with XP for now I think. we just can't figure out why 1.9 and 2.0 won't work.

Where does it fail? Any error messages? What firmware is in the cable?

it won't "read" the PCM. I'm not sure what the firmware version is. AZSpitfire (Todd) has all that info.

I've linked the thread to him, so he'll see it. he should post up some more info.

you need to hurry up with your standalone.

sorry...work, tired, not feeling well

firmware on the vista laptop and xp laptop is 112

xp laptop is on 2.1.18.0
vista laptop is on 2.2.0.0

2.2.0.0 on either the xp laptop or vista laptop will not read the car. is gives an error that the cable is unplugged or the key isn't in run when it is gathering info.
same thing with the 2.1.19 beta hpt sent me. tried it with both xp and vista laptops

it works fine in my 2001 sunfire gt 2.4

using the xp laptop and 2.1.18 i can do everything fine with jarrets car

anything else you need from me?

I'm not even sure Rob. I haven't really played with Vista yet.
