9:1 compression... timing retard?
Friday, February 29, 2008 1:06 PM
Yes... i have used the earch and found nothing, so here goes. I have 9:1 compression piston, and a T3/T4 turbo and intercooler running 7 psi. I am going to be running 92 octane gas. With that, does anybody think there will be any knock, and that i will have to retard timing?

It depends on a lot of things, just your piston choice, turbo, and PSI are not enough to determine what timing you should run. Honestly it has more to do with climate, engine condition, altitude, weather, etc, than it does with PSI. There is no rule that X compression with Y PSI = Z timing retard or advance, it depends on how "safe" you want to be, how aggressive you are with the tuning, how good you or your tuner are, and your environment.

If you get knock, retard, if you're scared of blowing stuff, up, retard, then advance. I can tell you though, even at 10 PSI on my 9.5:1 on my Super 60, I got no knock, but I am tuned.
