Worth tuning a n/a 2200?
Sunday, August 16, 2009 12:22 PM
As the subject states im interested in getting a tune done on my 2200 ohv engine. I have no boost, just a cai, header, 2.25 exhaust after header, new msd coil packs, lightweight pulleys. Anyway is it worth to have a tune done?? Will the engine run differently, and what does advancing the timing actually do, does it put more fuel and/or air into the combustion chamber?? Anyway all comments suggestions welcome. Also would the dealership do this for me?

tuning will always help, just not much on a stock engine.

horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.

No not really going to be worth it. Maybe if you had the tuning software and did not have to pay to license your vehicle and you knew what to do with it yourself it would be worth it in a purely just for shtts and gigles type of thing. Advancing the timing will help an engine make higher hp but ONLY under the right conditions and could be far more harmfull if somone went too far with it. Advancing the timing refers to the spark being fired sooner. It does not change how much air and fuel go into the cylinder.

The dealership can not do this for you.

mine is stock now (with exhaust and intake only). It runs a bit better with a tune. Im not sure exactly what skunk has done to it though.

When it had all my listed mods it was night and day compared to the stock tune.

NOT worth it if you only have those mods. Unless you have $100 to throw at credits, and plan on doing more work (ported head, cam, boost etc) as you only buy the credits once.
