my friend has a 96 sunfire gt. forged 2.4 with a external gated 57 trim turbo
he has been running a afc fuel controller on it with the ford brown tops at around 6psi.
my question is what does it take to switch over to a 97 ecu/pcm so he can use hptuners?
any help would be awesome

A select few have 96 ecu's that are direct plug and play with the 97. only problem is i cant remeber whether the 97 is the 2 plug or 3 plug harness to tell him so see what he has. Worst case senario you would need the 97 ecu and the complete engine harness. The rest of the cars wiring is the same other than the connection to the ecu itself. I will be doing this to my 96 vert also.
97+ is a 2 plug, so if his is then easy. Next step if it is not a 2 plug is either a 97+ wiring harness and ECU swap (plug and play), or repine his harness for a 97 ECU.

Repin the harness. Can use a 97 ECM, or a 95 ECM.
