COULD THE DIRRFRENCE IN YEAR BE CAUSING MY BACKFIRE BECAUSE THE CAMSHAFT WAS CHANGED IN 2001.Are the ecu the same?
No they are not the same. The camshaft and cam sync position changed in 2000. Basically using the '99 motor with an '01 ecu will throw off the computer and cause it to fire the fuel injectors at the wrong time, which is why the motor is running so crappy.
Hey man were did u find your info. Ive been trying to figure this out for three weeks now and that the problem its like im getting to much fuel.
my friend is running a 02 motor in his 97 , with a 99 program in his cav and no problems
Like I said in the e-mails, the computer uses the camshaft to sync up the fuel injectors.
Hey 97 cavie is your friends a 2200 or a 2.4?
Cracker Rocket,
Where did you find the info about the cams changing in 2000?

It was a while back that I was told that the 95-97 and 98-02 motors had different camshafts. From what I understand, the 98-02 motors all had the same grind, but the cam sync was changed between 1999 and 2000. Thats why it would be throwing off the computer and fuel injectors, which might be the cause of his fuel issues. Oh, and if I remember correctly, it was a parts guy at the local chevy dealership that told me this.
Hey i picked up a 99 ecu put it in the car tries to turn over but wont start doesn anything have to be done before starting the car or is the ecu no good?
If they changed the cam sync in 2000, I wonder if they changed anything on the crank position sensor on the 2000's.
