Just wondering if those of you who have faked a 2 bar map sensor in order to tune for boost are satisfied with how your car is running. Both in and OUT of boost.
i would also like to kno considering i will be getting it next month and i will be fakeing the 3 bar. just wondering how the car runs with the lower resolution.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
faking a 3 bar you will have little to no resolution to tune with for out of boost most which is 90% of your driving unless its a race car, a 2 bar is quite a stretch as it is and unless your actually running (not planning) more than 15psi your shooting yourself in the foot
On ANY J engine you shouldnt be running 15+psi unless you have a built motor, your creating a short life for your motor

Curious why hasnt hpt worked on improving the program for us??
Not really that surprising, same reason that theres not alot of new aftermarket parts out for the J, its a dead platform, not to mention its not MAF based
The program was made for MAF based cars and not having that really puts the J at a tuning disadvantage
We should count our blessings that we have it all for any of the engines in the J, even with the limited changes we can make.
As for new abilities coming for the J, I wouldnt hold my breath, the only way you can do more is to get a standalone management

HPtuners allows you complete control over the stock parameters of the ecu. If they were to provide 2 and 3 bar support, that would mean creating a custom OS, which is currently only provided to a small handful of platforms, don't expect to ever see if for J-body's, if any 4cyl is going to get it it's the cobalts, etc.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
It doesn't sound like there's too many satified people that are boosted using HP Tuners...hmmm
Thats why im getting the REFLASH BABY!!! Yeah

hptuners is hell to tune fuel with on a boost application... period.
my tune was so damn rough, it made sure i didnt blow my motor, and gave me a 12 second pass, so i cant completely bash it!

Lots of great posts guys...but there's one person who really answered the original post.
Anymore?
I repinned my '96 harness to run a '97-'98 PCM and faked a 2-bar. Ran that for a few weeks just to play with/get more familiar with HPT. Then repinned again for a '99 PCM so I could run high impedence Volvo 440cc injectors. Then repinned again to run a '00> ECU and the GM reflash.
Personally the MAP vs rpm tuning on the GM reflash is a little more seamless than the Fake 2bar. But the fake tune did the job very well. So overall I'm pretty happy with the HPT for what it's for.
I'll be switching over to a Tec3 hopefully this summer some time. That should prove interesting...

I was planning on using HPT for s/c 02 z24. I do have a 2bar map on my car plus I am running the HO cams with Cam Sync Gen and p&p head. It sounds like this will not work well with my setup?
I will be running about 8lbs of boost and I do have the GM reflash that came with the s/c.
hp tuners still works with the 2.4 supercharger program
it does not work with the eco one

it works great w/ the 2.4 s/c program. once i finally got into it, i found it pretty straight forward, just let hte data do the talking, and follow its lead.

Let me rephrase my question: Are you guys satisfied with tuning a relatively low amount of boost (10-13 lbs) on the Ecotec's ecm with HPTuners?

I hate when you say that.
Just because the car isn't made anymore is NOT the reason there isn't parts for us. The camaro stopped production in 2002, and they still make crap for them (HPT was only available what, last year?) and thats brand new.
The reason nobody makes application specific parts is because nobody in the j community is willing to spend decent money to get good parts.

around there should be ok, but any higher I don't think HPT can get the job done. MS or another piggy back used in tandem would be a better choice
Here's the drawback of HPT.
They cater to the V8 guys, always have always will. They even went so far to make custom PCM calibrations for them, for boost, off boost, maf delete, etc.
Through the use of HPT we end up finding out they forgot to add a table here, over there, over yonder every few months. The only support is what they allowed us to have. Ecotec guys are a lil screwed because you can't even tweak the GMPP eco supercharger calibration because GM did some funky nonsense with it. It would be nice for HPT to step up and make a 3bar calibration for the boosted people, for the 2.2OHV, eco, and 2.4L twin cam guys, with room to tune accurately for higher revs. Personally I don't think it is a crime to beg grovel and yell that we need better support.

I would LOVE to have 3bar support, as so would every other boosted car out there

so true...
P&P Tuning
420.5whp / 359.8wtq
I don't know if this could ever happen because of liability issues, etc, but would it be possible for hptuners to ever allow people to edit the OS...it almost seems like a provision was that was built into the interface, because one of the choices in the editor is to view the OS, but it just doesn't pop up with anything to change...It seems like this could give us a way to change tables or whatever else...only we'd be doing the work not the hptuners people...all in all everyone would benefit, they'd have less work to do and we'd have more customization..any thoughts?
Anything will be better.
the worst thing HPT did was give me the chance to tune my setup. They gave me a little bit, and now they're not giving me anymore. I WANT MORE DAMMIT! If I had 3bar support I can totally see myself and a whole group of other people really pushing these motors. You would definitely see a lot more 350-450hp setups beyond, the retardedly few.

Im lovin my setup, my tuning guy is having a pretty easy time with mine I think.. Of course, he's used to Vetts and Camaros.
