I recently painted the trunk bezel on my fire with white krylong fusion. I primed over the plastic with a krylon primer then sprayed white then clear. Well its turning yellow and I think its time to redo it with automotive paint. My next door neighbor has an HVLP gun that he has never used. Since I am painting plastic with automotive paint. What steps need to be taken? Do I sand the old spray primer off back down to the plastic? Any help would be appreciated

I'd take it back down to the plastic... use a plastic primer (if it's an interior piece... my brain isn't TOTALLY working)... if it's exterior you CAN use a regular primer... but plastic primers are better to use for interior purposes. If there's scratches... use a regular primer.

Yea it is an exterior trunk bezel. I will take it down to the plastic and reprime using a regular primer. Then I wetsand the primer with 600 grit before applying basecoat?

primer with 400... if you use a higher grit.. it compromises the paint adhering properties

Okay only two more quick questions. Do I wetsand after basecoat and clear? If so what grit? Thanks fallen angel you are a lifesaver

DO NOT sand the basecoat before the clear. After the clear, you do not HAVE to sand, unless you have a run or something... it's not a requirement after painting... but it's also up to preference. IF you wetsand after painting... 1500 or 2000 grit
