I went to the junk yard to get another trunk today which i will be having the inner tail lights/ reverse lights shaved and also the key hole. The people that have done this, what are you using for your reverse lights? Pictures would be nice. I had a plan to use a back up light off of a base model cav and just make a clear lens for it in place of the red one but im looking for other suggestions, plus im not sure if i need 2 reverse lights for it to be legal in PA, for inspection purposes. Thanks

my friend shaved his and then cut out holes for a small fog light and also rigged it up on a toggle switch so if someone had their brites on bam!! he would turn them on and let them know

i think this idiot needs banned er something
anywho... i know a couple people with there trunks shaved and they dont use any kind of back up light. ive also heard of people using those LED license plate bolts and hooking them up to the reverse lights. but i do like the fog light idea, especially with the toggle switch and blinding people!!!!!!! thats classic

No pics but I have an idea. In the rear bumper cut 2 holes, one for a white backup light and one for a red JDM style rear fog light. That way when you back up your white light cuts on and then you can wire up the red light however you want, third brake light, actualy wire it in so it comes on when you turn on your fog lights, or just have it come on with your back up light. Either way you go it'll look cool IMO.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Just get a 00+ sunfire rear bumper, like this:
My plan was to get some 2k Toyota Cavalier Outters.. and instead of wiring them up like the Toyota Cavs.. Using the turnsignals for teh reverse lights, and then use the brake lights like normal dual purpose brake and turn signal.. Also i have a set of the APC All clear outters i was just going to drill a hole and mount the reverse bulb in there with the brake light but i decided they were going to go with the look i want so im sellin em.. I've also liked the fog light idea mounting on say the spare tire well underneath.. another Idea i had was getting LED bars and putting them vertical next to my license plate.. Or if u have the 3rd brake light in the rear window, make a custom white plate and turn the 3rd brake light a reverse light.
I asked my grandpa's neighbor who is a local police officer, and he said here(Logansport, Indiana) the reverse lights are a courtesy to other drivers and pedestrians and that it is not illegal for you not to have them... but is highly suggested... If u ever get in a wreck while backing up.. it can automatically be considered your fault being failure of signal..but pretty much if ur in reverse any way and get in a wreck its ur fault anyway so i didnt think much of it.. But u really need to find out your local law for reverse lights because they will vary between states and prolly even cities..
As for mine, when i put mine on in a couple weeks I don't plan to have any reverse lights for the moment.. Then i'll be ordering my toyota taillights prolly late summer
I'm using the led bar that is in the bottom of the old tag box in the bumper wired to the reverse switch.
Also, this is what I did with my old cav: I took some side marker lights (I had the super street ones but any kind would work) and put them below my outer tails and wired them up to the reverse lights.
With my new car, we've got a few ideas, but nothing set in stone. The LED bar is on top of my shaved rear bumper now, but that's just a termporary setup.

Actually, it is. That's the sunfire sedan rear bumper which = same as 2/4 door cavalier rear bumpers.
I am working on some LED tails (one is finished) similar to John Piparo's and I just incorporated white LED's into there.
hey crystal i wanted to know where you got that led bar from?? i have a shaved trunk and i like that led strip but i couldnt find anything like that

Scroll almost all the way down
I did a quick Google search, and that's the only place I could find that listed prices. Good luck.
do you think that 1.5 watts would be good enough??
what degree, MCD(whatever that is), and wattage would be good?? please help somebody
Since you got a cavi, and aftermarket tails come with clear lenses, doing what I did would be a sinch.
