so im getting blue neons tommorrow, and i need to know, where would you guys say is the best place to mount them (underbody) and btw, is it illegal to drive with them on? cuz thats what ive heard but i figured id ask.
ILLEGAL yes
cant help with the other thing
I'm the new cancer.
You should mount them inside a black box......
Oh please, now the guy will get barraged by anti-neon people . . .
Mounting the neons, just do it where you won't drill into anything. Seeing as you have an 01 Cavy, I'm not sure if theunderside will be the same as my 05. You won't be able to mount the neons near the edges of the car since the brake lines run in that area. Make sure you mount the side tubes past the brake lines moreso near the middle of the car, and the back/front mounting is pretty simple. This way, you won't be able to see the tubes, but you'll still get a great glow from underneath.
As for illegal, yes they are. So is exhaust, neon plate border, niitrous, HID on cars that don't come stock with it, lowering, etc. Do cops pull over for it? Not really . . . unless you are in California
. Cops will pull you over for it if you are giving them a reason to notice you with speeding, loud sterio, etc. I have StreetGlow Blue Line series installed, and I've driven with these on past county cops, state police, local police, etc and they haven't even turned a head. As long as the tubes aren't visible and they don't pulse or flash, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Make sure you wire them to a kill switch just incase. I have mine on a switch and I usually turn them off past cops or radaring cops just incase, but its just useful to have.
Actually I think only certain towns say they are illegal. Where I live, they are legal except for red. Thats what a cop told me at least.
ya my school cop told me aqua was legal then i get pulled over for them =( f*** the popo!
in FL u can not have red or blue or ( "aqua" )... but then again i see alot of people with them and they dont even get cought, and the thing that really pisses me off is that some even have their lights dancing well driving! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
5 seconds to find another street...
Legality depends on your location. Some areas go by colors, others go by if it flashes or not, etc.
I use to have mine tucked up underneath the side skirt. That eliminated part of the glow, but it worked great.
mine are zip tied to the frame, tucked enough so you cant see the bulbs. and if you want to go that route, i would suggest go LEDs rather than neon, for quality and durabilitys sake.
as far as legality goes, i never have them on while driving, just to be on the safe side. Especially if they are blue.
now hookin these up to a switch and just hookin them up to power period, whats the best way to go about that? there are alot of things out there i havent done, and this is one of them.
and im not going to need to take off any body panels (bumpers or fenders) to get these put in am i? i kinda want to get them in before i have to go to work. i mean, come on i need to show off everynow and then. lol
no you dont have to take any panels off, it just makes it easier. i didnt take any panels off when i had mine on. i actually mounted mine to the bumper and had it shine on the ac condensor so it would light up the hole grill. as for as wiring goes they have instructions in the kit when you buy, atleast all the ones that ive installed did. ive also seen them hooked up to the headlight switch so everytime you turned the headlights on they would come. as for if they're legal or not depends on each state. i live in ohio and had blues and never got pulled over( then again i never did anything to give them a reason to pull me over) but when i was indiana to do a job i got pulled over and all he asked me to do is turn off the front one and since they're not wired up to turn off individually i just turned them all off. hope that helps any.

I think its more along the lines of how well the police know the law and care. In my town the cops have been known to be real pricks because not much happens in little sheridan wyoming. So they like to harass drivers as much as possible. I got on the internet and looked up my state statutes (vehicular laws are often based on state not county or city) and even printed a copy off of the part about vehicle lighting. In wyoming you're not allowed to have flashing lights, nor can you have red or blue lights visible from the front of your car by other drivers. So I used to run LEDs and just moved the one under the front to my trunk. I just never had them flash. They would still pull me over and argue with me about them and I'd have to pull out the statutes. One time I was using red and a cop pulled me over and said they were illegal and to change them to another color. Than he came back and said the only legal way would be if I had yellow ones on the side hooked to the turn signal, and red ones in the back hooked to the brakes. I questioned him more and by the time he let me go he was saying I could only run on red?!?! And the cops here still pull your over for cyan/turquoise/teal and when you tell them it isnt blue they just laugh.
okay, i got them and im lookin at the diagram. i have a place to mount the switch, and idea for the ground, and a place for the disribution block... what should i hook up the power too? im goin to work at two, so i cant install them now, but it would be nice to have some responses six hours from now, cuz i cant wait to get these in!

Some wire it to a constent on aka fuse panle or you can wire them in to your headlight harnness like i did. but make sure it is a 12 volt wire.

self tapping screws? uhm, i probably sound really retarded, but what are those? obviously theyre screws but whats special 'bout em?
btw, hook up will be easy as pie, the previous owner put in fog lights, the wires are still there (no more lights lol) and they are hooked up to the headlight switch. 12v easy hook up. i was thrilled lol.
yeah, the tapping.... that threw me off never gheard em called "tapping" but yeah, it wont have the balls for that either
