RK Sport J type side skirt...pain in tha a#!
Sunday, May 07, 2006 5:20 PM
i have the RK Sport J Type kit on my cavy, the side skirt top will not stay on the body. i have used 3m 2 sided tape but the heat makes it come off again, is there anything else out there that i can use other than molding the kit on? any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need to make sure your car is CLEAN and free of any waxes........ make sure BOTH surfaces are CLEAN so it can stick on. Make sure you do not install it in the heat of the day when its 100 deg outside or right under the sun. If that still fails, 3m makes a product which is like "crazy glue" which you put on the 3m double sides tape. Once you install it with that, good luck pulling it off

you shouldnt need anything for it but it doesnt hurt. if you screw the sides on in the wheel wells, it should hold in place the way it is and fit fine

Even with the screws on the inside of the fenders, both mine and Jack Browns came loose as well. I used a clear silicone to hold them in place. Worked great, and I still got mine off when I sold my kit last winter.

the tape that comes on the skirts came loose on mine also. but i just bought some double sided tape from the hardware store, cleaned up the quarter panel, and stuck it back on... never came loose again.

yeah, the tape that comes on the skirts is worthless. i went to a hardware store and got some 3m double sided mounting tape, put a screw in the wheel well, and tape along the quarter panel. i've never had a problem with it.

Is te clear silicon noticable? I have a black car so I used black silicon, but it has faded and collect dirt and is very noticable.

It was underneath the sideskirt, how would you see it? Unless you used too much and didn't clean the excess off...
