Okay I've got a '97 RS with the "grill type" cut outs and I have a set of like "3 round fog lights with all the wiring, relay, and switches. I really want to cut two holes a little smaller then the lights then mount them so they looks sort of stock or at least look okay.
Only I've never tried drilling big holes or cutting holes in the stock type bumpers before anyone know the "tricks" so I don't have to buy a different cover?????????

um not to be a jackass or anything but whats so hard about it? find the fogs u like, figured out a way to mount them, then use a dremel or something to cut the bumper to make it fit.. dont cut it to size the first time cut it like 1/2" to small and keep taking little steps till the fog fits in nice and snug and till it will mount up how u planned..
sorry but how is this difficult? not trying to be rude but its just common sense, the bumper is only plastic so its not really like their are any tricks to it from cutting anything else..like i said, not trying to be rude or a jackass but i just dont understand why its being asked how to mount em when u have the fog lights already.. jus take em go outside and get under the bumper and find ways to mount them.. then cut the bumper as needed for them to fit..
I guess I wasn't clear enough? I want it to look good when I'm done. So I'm looking for tips on protecting the paint, and hopefully how to brace the bumper so the hole doesn't deform on me. That kind of thing.
And before someone asks yes i can get "stock" Z24 fog-lights for my car but frankly they're dim, the ones I've seen might as well be a flashlight bulb.
I bought 80 watts ones and I can buy bulbs over a 100 watts for them. Yes i know they're illegal as well as being half as bright as the ones on the new trucks. Those are the ones that should be outlawed.

as for bumper deforming.. If u just cut the grille out it shouldnt be a problem, if u have to cut some of the bumper itself as well it shouldnt realy warp on ya.. its bolted on bolt sides and has crushguard to support it so its not like itll have alot of room to warp on you.
now i dont know what fog lights you have but i have always found it kind of hard to make any aftermarket fog light look good on stock bumpers.. But i do have a idea for you

you can buy that grille mesh insert i posted the link above, this should do u a favor in being u can then cuz the plastic grille on the bumper anyway needed to get the fog lights to fit flush or a lil recessed with the bumper.. then the mesh will hide them.. but the mesh wont interupt the light output of the fogs either.. I have my stock z24 fogs being the mesh on my bomex and it doesnt effect the light of the fogs at all

Okay,I guess I have the "Z24" type front bumper the early third gen one with two middle sized openings split in three. It's the bumper that uses the foglights that Larry Martin guy put in his "Large Mouth" grill. The kinda square ones, but, like I said they are just not bright enough.

ah gotcha, well u can upgrade fog bulbs.. there #881 27watt bulbs.. u can go to part store or anywhere and get #886 bulbs which are 55watts.. should help out ur light quite a bit.. Also if u like the idea of the mesh insert i showed u for the base bumper, they also have some for the z24 bumpers also.. so if u cant find a way to make some fogs look good u can use the mesh to kinda hide em..

for anyone who reads this that has 2000+ fog lights u can not upgrade the #880 to higher wattage bulb or to a bulb upgrade(#885) without modification to the fog housing.. the higher wattage bulbs will melt the fog light housing..

Hehe... I did the same thing...
Hey Manta,
Thank you that's it. I think I'm going to try mounting them so they sit in front. If I don't like how it looks I can always try the inserts.
