I recently purchased a kit for my 96 Cavi. the other day my friend and i were installing it and we ran into a few problems. First, the driver side skirt is like a millimeter too short and is going to be a pain to get on. My main problem though is the rear. If we match the kit up with the wheel well, then there is an inch gap between the kit and the mounting holes. Second the only mounting places are the wheel wells and two bolts (on either side)from the top in the trunk, if i dont brace is at the bottom some how it is gunna flex bad right? and lastly the top of the rear needs support under it in order to be flush with the trunk. so are these typical problems or did i get a piece of crap kit?
well i can tell you right now you have a drift rear.
when you put the rear on right under the corner panel, are you putting it up and over that little black tab? if not it could be a reason y its not lining up. same thing w/ the rear. under each taillight filler plate, theres like 2 bump outs right there, make sure the bumper goes over them. as for the sag in the middle, go to your hardware store and get several L brackets and mount them to your bumper support then you can rest the bumper so it stays lined up w/ the trunk lid instead of sagging.
where did u get the kit and what kind?? could be the main answer
Well i got the kit from a guy who wrecked his car before he was able to put it on so i dont know who manufactured it buti do know that it is a drift kit.
oops sorry its a bomex kit
for the rear...di you take off the crush gaurd...cause well if ya didn't that would be your problem. if not then yea its a crap kit.
yea sadly i took off the drush guard. i think i am just going to take the lazy but effective way out. i think i might just take it to a body shop, i really dont want to though but right now i am rolling around with just a front bumper.
wow i guess all my post get overlooked
no i saw your post man and someone had actually already suggested that here in my otwn and i think i am going to try it but things dont usually work out for me i end up messing them up.
If you have the bomex rear, it goes over your stock rear.
are you serious? wont my stock rear show? i mean that makes a lot of sense but i never would have guessed
holy crap. alright so i put the bumper on over the old one, fits like it should only now that i see the d**m thing on the car, i dont think it looks right. i'll get some pics tomorrow before i actually put it on, but the butt sticks out a good 6 7 inches from my car. i just looks wierd to me, but this is my first body kit. anyone else have the bomex rear on their car?
bomex does that.. main reason why ALOT of people dont like it.. but i will admit when my friend had it on his old car we supported the hell out of it and it made a handy seat. Portable Park Bench for when we were hanging out and what not.
yea that looks better than i thought it would i just need to get the skirts on. question though. on yours buzzin did you have any problems with the skirts? my door pops against them when i open it, i dont know if i will have to do some sanding or what but if that happened to you and you know how to solve it that would be great.
body kits usually need some tweaking to fit correctly, especially if they are fiberglass. you're probably going to have to do some minor work to them so they'll fit and you won't have clearance issues (door jams, wheel wells, etc).
but that's what's so great about fiberglass, it's really easy to repair if you mess it up.
also if you put a case of beer on it sideways it works perfectly
ok i have a question i have a Z24 and i was thinking about going to bomex instead of the drift will i have to get the factory rear or will the kit fit over my Z rear.
