ok, im making a f/g lip. and after seeing it compared to the bomex on there now its not much higher lol.. so my question is.. anyone have any ideas of how and what i can use to easily make a mold of the lip? so if i break it this one-off lip isnt destroyed to the point it takes alot of work to repair.. something i can slide the remaining peices in and just ly glass in the areas missing? only thing i could think of was to make a f/g mold lol.. and just line it with duct tape or foil beofre using it.. IF anyone has any easier suggestions i'd appreciate it.. something like plastic so its pretty durable..
appreciate it.. and no i didnt search cuz im at the shop now workin on it and dont have much time to look.
best way i can figure, get your lip done, then literally just make a reverse mold of it. so if you choose you can peice it back to gether in, or i would just lay new glass in there and make many....
Soak tin foil in water (really doesn't absorb it, makes it easier to work with). Spread the tin foil over the place you want to mold, smoothing out the wrinkles as much as possible (the water makes this easier). Tape off the edges (after it dries) so that the tin foil doesn't come up, and make sure to tape farther out from where you are fiberglassing for overlap.
Make a fiberglass negative of the part you want to have a mold of. Do some finishing work on the inside of the mold. You can then get some urethane paint and paint the inside of the mold, making it smooth. Now every time you want to make a part, spray some mold release on the inside of the mold, lay the fiberglass in, and there you go.
