fender problems
Saturday, March 24, 2007 12:51 PM
ok so i'm doing the 00-02 headlight conversion and i bought some aftermarket fenders. i went to put them on today and they dont' line up very well at all. there's about a 1" gap between the hood and the part of the fender where the corner lights go. the part of the fender that meets the door leaves a bigger gap than there should be. i'm just really not satisfied with these at all.

so my question is: where did you guys get your fenders for the headlight conversion or did you just modify the old fenders? i'm looking for some quality fenders that are going to fit well.

Fenders should be good from 95+ all the same. My bet is you got a pair of fiberglass that are a little warped and don't fit exactly right. Did you try putting the old fenders back on with the new headlights just to be sure the new fenders are the culprit and not a front end damage in an accident?

yeah the fenders are the same with the exception of a bracket attached to the inside of the fender for the 95-99 models. the 00-02 models don't have that bracket. from reading the sticky all i need to do is cut that bracket off to get the 95-99 fenders to work with the 00-02 headlights. doing that would be great but the old driver's side fender had a few dents so that's why i bought new ones.

i could modify the passengers side and that should work perfectly but i still need a drivers side. i may end up going to a junk yard and getting a 95-99 model fender and just cutting the bracket off.

besides the one fender all i really need are the brackets from an 00-02 for the corner lights. in the sticky it said some people say you can do without it. unless i can find those brackets i may have to do without. i'd like to find some though.

have you ever thought of just driling new holes and re-aligning the front corner ?? it's a lot easier than what your trying to do. I just did a 03 swap on my 96Z and I used my stock fenders and didn't have to do much moddin to them at all to make things line up all I had to do was drill a hole like you'll have to do (closer toward the end of the fender by the tire .... ) due it's a piece of cake so don't be afraid to be rough, it's steel

i don't think drilling new holes will work. they just seem to be way off. i put the old drivers side fender back on and the headlight fits a lot better but it's just not right yet. almost there though.

i also put the new passengers side fender on and it's off pretty bad as well and in different places than the drivers side.

i've never had to replace fenders so i'm not sure if i'm doing things in the wrong order or what. just pretty frustrated with the whole thing.

00-02 headlight swap isn't as easy as it looks.

well you got steel so just don't bend or dent them other than that they should be fairly easy to install and fitment you just gotta be a little forceful sometimes ...

Did you try adjusting the hood?

yeah i'm pretty sure i used the right holes. there's one at the front by the headlight, one midway, 2 where the hood hinge is, 2 on the bottom by the door and one under the fender just behind the corner light.. oh and one inside the door jamb, possibly two.

i'll get some more pictures today.

since the old passengers side fender fits perfectly and has no dents or anything i'm going to have the bracket cut off. then i'll try to mount the headlight and corner light and see how that fits. if it works i'll just return the new fenders and buy an old 95-99 drivers side and have that bracket cut off as well.

i bought these two fenders for an 00-02 and my car is a 95. i'm not sure if that makes any difference though. i'm not very experienced with this kind of stuff

no different at all like I said before I just swapped out for the whole 03 front, headlights, and hood but I didn't have to swap fenders the year of the vehicle isn't going to matter between 95- 05 the body was all the same the only difference was the headlights styles and thats it really all the body lines and hood and fenders included are the same

yeah i believe the car has been hit on the drivers side. i think maybe it was hit in the door. i'm not sure if that's the original drivers side fender or not but it fit really well. the only thing wrong with it was a few dents. that's why i decided to buy new fenders.

the car was fixed before i got it and everything that was on the car seems to fit really well. i put the old drivers side fender back on and the only problem is the door rubs now but that's because i was a bit rough with it taking it off. i didn't think i'd need it again lol.

my brother cut the bracket off the passenger side fender and put the fender back on the car along with the headlight and everything on that side lines up almost perfectly now. i'm going to get another drivers side from a junk yard and see if that does it.

if that doesn't work then i'm not sure what i'll do.
