What do you all think about flat black paint jobs?
I was thinking of painting the cav flat blackusing PPG paint. Then adding a gloss black with a blue pearl pattern. What do you all think? Will adding the blue pearl to the black work?
i was considering doin half my car flat black. i personally like it, but it needs to be complimented by another color IMO. not positive if the pearl will show up over flat though.
The pearl over flat black would probably make it look dirty.
eh.. IMO opinion flat black looks almost like black primer........... personally id stay away from it, unless it was on an old muscle car...
i like the look of flat black. But i think i would do the semi flat black though cuz the flat black does look like primer and has that chalky look to it as well
^ the back of that car is sexy!

Flat black looks too much like primer. Semi-flat has just enough shine to make it stand out and gives it a nice look.

I was thinking the same thing. Thats why I wanted to add a black gloss w/a blue pearl pattern. I didnt want to add the pearl to the whole car... On the other hand, I could do a two tone. But what is everybodys thoughts on something that would compliment the flat black for a two tone?
satin black looks so much better than flat by far
flat black is def. sexy

'nuff said
two tone would be ok too, if the top was black and you had a nice, vibrant color to compliment it.
Think about it- In the old days flat black primer made a statement- You were poor and couldn't afford a paint job. If you add blue pearl to black you won't see it. Add the pearl to DBC 500 ( couple of big pinches ) and clear with DCU 2060 flexed and flat clear to protect pearl from wearing off. Keep in mind when you spray pearl you have to walk the lengh of the car with no overlap at fender and door and door and quarter panel or you'll have effect stripes............

Love that look...... my '95 will be getting a 'Semi-Flat Black' paint job here soon..... the Z wheels are also painted black on it. I might do a set of 'Gloss Black' SS style strips on it as well, we'll see.

Flat black is tough....its gotta be the right car witht he right look to it....
im gonna say this once and if it pisses off the ones that think Flat black paint jobs are cool on cars that arent PRE 1966 cars then u need a reality check. leave the flat black colors to the REAL street rods not cars that are 1980 + year cars cuz they are in no way any form of Rat Rod or any type of Street Rod . dont call your 2001 civic, eclipse,or what ever it is a Rat Rod cuz of the flat black paint , Look up what Rat Rod really means , better yet go find a copy of Ol' School Rodz magazine or Delux Car Kulture mag. the cars/trucks in there are Real Rat Rods . Flat or satin colors are cool just not for a 99 cav .
