has anyone ever replaced there own windshield before. If so how hard is it i know you need the weather stripping the adhesive and of course the windshield. any help on this would help out a lot if its to hard then i will just have the glass shop do it

to save trouble later I would say have a glass shop do it, if you end up getting a leak if it is not done correctly then you would likely end up doing to a glass shop anyway,
haven't had to do it to mine yet, but when I do, it will be a shop doing it, then if there are problems, they can deal with it at their dime

Definitely...I haven't got a quote for the Cav but it's $250 installed for a Mustang. For that kind of price and the piece of mind that comes with the warranty, I'd let professionals handle it. Plus, it'll only take about twenty minutes.

I paid $170 taxes in Canadian when I had my windshield done, well worth having a shop do it.

unless you have a way to heat the urethane upto 180 degrees, and the auto gun to dispense it, good luck.

and your window trim seal has to be in good shape as well

Don't get the wrong impression here, you can do this yourself, and you do not need to heat the urethane to 180 degrees. You can buy windshield urethane at most shops, prep the sill and place the windshield in yourself (with the help of a friend), BUT we are just saying it is beneficial to have a professional shop do it as you run the risks of having leaks and such.

those window urethanes that dont require heat to activate it, is like using elmers school glue when you need epoxy

There not that bad - One of my buddies replaced the windshield in his truck using these products, and it hasn't leaked and that was 4 years ago.

Yeah, but will the windshield do its job in an accident and stay in place? In the J-body, the passenger 'bag bounces off the windshield as it deploys, if its not properly installed, the force could be enough to push the windshield off and not catch the passenger like it should, I for one would not want my passenger to suffer a broken neck from an improperly deployed airbag.

I have no idea if it would or would not, that's why I would take it to a shop and have it done. I only said that you can get the products and do it yourself. Wether or not the products have the holding power to keep a window in place has many variables, some of which being the product itself, the prep of the surface, etc... So, these products COULD be capable, but there are variables there that could cause them to fail. As previously stated by others, including myself, bring it to a shop and get the window replaced.

Another good thing about the shop, if they bust the new windshield as they install it, its on them. If you bust it while installing, the wallet says OUCH.

i didnt think it would be that cheap for a new windshield... but mine has been to hell and back with the previous owner (23 F college student) who bought the car new and when i got it, it still had the FACTORY wipers needless to say, i could use a new windshield

Last time I was workin' for the dealer a new glass at my price was about 150, and the glass company we used it was only 180 installed. Not worth saving 30 bucks if you ask me.

No difference. The windshields are all the same unless you get one with the tint bar across the top.

Yep ripping you off for sure. I would love to hear what he has to say that is different. Tape it, and call the BBB and let them know he is trying to get more money out of people.
