go to a real tint shop. if they cant tint that, then imo they dont know what they are doing. it is possible to tint the dot matrix.

only other solution is a black piece of vinyl on the outside of the window to cover the matirx

It will stick to the dot matrix no matter what. But will you get the "bubbling" or "white" spots where the tint doesn't adhere in between the dot matrix that everyone sees? Yes, if the tint shop doesn't know what they are doing they will tint it, it will look good for a few hours and when it all drys up you will see spots in some areas where the dot matrix kept the tint from adhering to the window.

Case in point.

I had mine done at a shop that claimed they handeld the dot matrix and it spotted very and I mean very minimal, so it is not very noticeable. But you can see it if you look directly at the rear window.

My friend had his GTO done which has the dot matrix as well but had it done at a different shop. Looks flawless, can't even tell that the dot matrix is there unless you are all the way up against the window. He found a shop that took the time to tint the window correctly and made sure that it stuck in between the dots. I think he said that they pre-dried it a bit after application with the heat gun and worked it till it stuck. Take more time and some shops wont spend the time in light of getting as much business as possible in one day. What ever the case is, when I decide to have my rear window redone I will go to the shop he went to.

Moral of the story, like everyone says. It can be done, don't let a shop tell you otherwise. Can most shops do it? Maybe, but the dot-matrix is a rarely used "tint" method for the rear window to reduce glare and upholstery that GM still seems to use. Now a days most shops have never even seen it nor tinted over it. So check into it and if it isn't done the way you want have them do it again or go somewhere else. Key is to have them ensure to you that they can do it before you drop the money to have it done. If they can't guarantee it, there are plently other places out there.

Yep...mine is an 02 and the rear looks perfect!

Go to a real shop and ask them...this is not a problem for someone who knows how!

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
