This summer I bought a carbon fiber front emblem from Aplus and its already starting to fade and the emblem feels and looks scratchy. Is there anything I can do to bring it back? My old carbon emblem did this but I figured that was because it was a cheaper kind of carbon overlay. But now this ones gettin that way too. I found
this, but I don't know if it will work with an emblem. Any ideas on how you 03+ guys keep your emblems lookin new??
I'm sorry to hear about the issue... If it was a more regular product for me, I think I could be of some help. Since it's not something we regularly stock or sell, I don't know much about them or what could help protect the cf.
This is the 1st I've heard of it though...

have you thought about scuffing it up with say 600 wet and then use some rattle can clear on it??
easy to fix...it's the just clear that needs buffing.
if you can't buff it to a shine, then sand it down with 320, 400, wet sand it nice and smooth, and re-clear it...it will look brand new once again.
when you sand it, don't be discouraged when it becomes cloudy...once you clear coat it, it will shine once again. Don't sand in too much though, you don't want to hit the material. With it just needing to be re-cleared I wouldn't imagine you needing to sand deep into it at all...just a nice surface scuff.
Jason, don't worry it's definitely not your fault. There's nothing you can do. I don't know how it could fade that quick, as I park my car in the garage most of the day, especially in the summer when I don't have school during the day. O well. Thanks bigpoppa for the advise I will try that sometime here soon before I let it get any worse. I figured I would have to reclear it, I just didn't know how to go about it.
And btw, Jason...is there any way you can look up in your records and see when I purchased this emblem from you? I just don't have a purchase date for it and I try to keep that with all my mods...thanks
Is the overlay real carbon fiber or just carbon fiber vinyl? i know the carbon fiber vinyl only has a outdoor life of about 3 years give or take due to how much sunlight it sees.
It's a real (thin) carbon fiber... it wasn't the vinyl.
It probably did have a very thin clear coat though, and could be the cause of it.
