I recently just finished painting my car myself, at home, in my driveway.
I used a foam brush and some Rustoleum from Home Depot... No, really.
Total cost of the project was $74.74 and it took about 10 days of my time.
The final result is amazing to say the least. Don't get me wrong, it is not perfect, but for $74.74 I would say it is a damn good job.

Styluss Customs - Poor Man's Paint Job
I know some of you may have seen the $50 Paint Job out there, this is different. Yes, it uses some of the same principles, but an entirely different technique to help eliminate the need for excessive sanding. Essentially the only thing my method shares with the $50 method s the technique used to mix the paint. What you see here is NOT sanded and NOT polished in any way. I simply let the paint dry, washed it and waxed it.
I figured some of you might want to throw a coat or 2 on your rides. It really is an easy, inexpensive way to bring some new life back to your car!!
i MIGHT consider trying that if rustoleum came in indigo blue met.

yeah that does look good....ive seen it before on a few older car forums. but with half of our cars being plastic or something other than good, strong detriot steel, im not so sure how well it would hold up.
In a competition I had where we had to build the cheapest car possible, many people used a $34 gallon of rustoleum paint in a paint gun (with some thinner added i think) and painted their cars. it definitely came out great for $34.
No where near the quality that a production car should be though.

I'm impressed! Yeah saw the write up before and it is pretty cool for a $75 paint job.
It is an article in the current Hot Rod special edition "Paint and Body Special". Not too bad for what you pay!
white also hides flaws pretty good though...a lot to do with why it looks so good
i seen this on v6Z24.com Girlracer has a nice writeup on it.
i'd look in to it... but for my Z i want Kandy Spectra Red .... i think i'll have to spend the $$ for the paint + Chroma clear =P

so how would this work if you wanted to add a midcoat or pearls or metallics?
i wouldnt spray that stuff on my car, but it looks pretty damn good in white for 75 bux, props on the work!

Mineral Spirits works perfect with it. That's whats on my Cav now. I used the same method (spray gun) and it layed on very nice.

Im all for doing stuff myself but paint is the absolute last thing Id skimp on
Goot for a beater or a budget project car. Not my taste.

I've seen this before and I plan on trying it on my $200 dollar truck and seeing how it works out, there is not a chance I would even think about trying this on the cav or even the beater but it would be perfect for my work truck.

Hey all, glad to see this thread getting some traffic.
The car is a 1989 Beretta Euro GTU. It is the most complete Euro conversion outside of the European states. A 2.8L Automatic.
As for the paint holding up, well, the write up I followed to try this on my own, before I made my own write up, had some pics of his car a year after he paint it and it looked the damn same as day 1. I expect it to last for a good while, and if it ever fades or loses any life, I'll just tape it up again and slap on another coat! But for now, it is a huge improvement from how the paint looked before!
