i have a 99 sunfire SE and i would love black housing headlights/turning signals, however i can't seem to find any. i am thinking about making my own (purchase an extra set of headlights and clear and corners and pull them apart and have them painted). i was wondering if anyone has done this? how do i break the seal on the headlight and turning signal housing? i heard you put them in an oven?? would i need to use i temp paint or would regular body paint work? any help would be bomb. thanks in advance!!!!
You can't paint the housing for the Sunfire headlights, not for 95-02 at least. Theres no part of the headlight that doesn't reflect the light, so painting it would ruin the light output. It actually wouldn't have any light output if you painted them black, just as well to paint the lens black.
For the black turn signals, go pick up a can of VHT Niteshades. I took my corner lights off and sanded them down with 500 grit sandpaper, then 1000 grit then 1500, then 2000. Spray on 4 light coats, then 4 coats of clear. Mine turned out good.
the best option to paint them is black chrome or would it be covered in black chrome? i remembering hearing about
Izn Trbl offering this service but he has been really busy as of late. But this would allow better light output than just regular paint
