95-99 tail light wires
Friday, January 25, 2008 7:57 PM
I was just at the junk yard and looked at a set of tails off a 97 cav and it had two bulbs in the outers, what bulbs do what with them(inner bulb vs outer)
I know the inner does the breaks, and I would assume maybe the trun lights or the running lights and the outer would be the other of the last two things, just didn't know which one, I have never really looked, would it be close to the toyo setup?

I tried searching a little and nothing came up,

I have an 01 so it did not help me much

cheers
Steve

dont know. seems odd that it has 2 bulbs in the outer, there is hardly room for the one.
my 98 and 01 have one bulb in the outer (quarter) and one bulb in the inner(trunk) trunk is the back up light , one filiment (same bulb)of the outer is a turn and the other is a park light.

some of the early 3rd gen Js (i thought it was just 95-96, but maybe there were some 97s too) had the regular bulbs like the rest plus one tiny (maybe 168) side marker. they functioned the same (big bulbs were brake/running/turns like normal) and the little one was on the bottom and acted just as a side marker. i dont think it did anything other than just being on while the lights were on. my buddy jack showed me his and i was like " is that?"

learn something new everday, eh?

coming back in 2008...

I am almost positive it was a 97, I looked at some sunfires and they looked to be the same too, I just never really noticed, from what I can tell, it kinda looks like the toyo's from the back, but I don't know what the outer bulb actually does, it would make sence if it was the turning signal, it would have been easier for gm to make out light housing and wiring for it and the toyo's, and smaller outside light just has 2 wires comming off of the main plug.

I should have gotten then and had a look, , maybe next week

you typed that while I was too,

I thought it was odd, it could have been the older ones,
I am looking at some toyo's from a guy I know that is able to import stuff from japan, and it they are the same that would be sweet for parts,
but prob not

The lights are not the same. You need to rewire your lights for the yotas to work right. Different harness and all.....nothing is plug and play with the GM units.
