what kinda of mufflers do you all use? looking for something to add on, not too loud but good performance

A muffler by itself is not going to give you any performance. Just find cars with a similar setup engine-wise and see what sounds good
to you
from the looks of your profile you have an 03...which means ecotec right?..i have megan dual catback exhaust on my 04 and i love the sound of it..not raspy at all..but nice n deep..but yet pretty much quiet at idle...if you want something that sounds nice and not ricey..you'll most likely have to spend a few bucks..its hard to get a "nice" sounding exhaust for dirt cheap..unfortunately! Hope that helps ya out.
doing a search I cant seem to find the duel megan, got a link?

I'm not too sure how far Lockport is from our shop, but if want to work with a reputable bunch of people for a cat-back (or even just the muffler install) let me know. Here's a link to a few of our exhaust jobs:

I've always run Dynomax Super Turbos. They outflow most of the competition and won't get you excessive noise tickets on the street. Great bang for your buck.
lol
Trip distance: 275.98 miles Time: 4 hrs 45 mins
That's a walk in the park! Lol...
Holy crap someone lives in Lockport? WOW....Yeah, it is a trek to RD's shop

Would be sweet if you put up a vid of your exhaust I would like to hear it!

whats wrong with lockport!?
Nothing is wrong with Lockport...just suprised to hear it on here. You know the steel mill that may/may not be in operation up there?
There is a steel mill up there, that may be part of Allegheny Ludlum now....but it was opened by my wifes Grandfather under the name Guterl Steel. I have been to that neck of the woods on more than one occasion....nice little area....the guys at your AutoZone are dumb as all get out though....
...they work at autozone what do you expect? also Idk where your talking about Ive only lived here a few years I dont really go wondering around
for the price. and since a catback is a catback! the vibrant is an awesome exhaust system! the muffler is nice! and it sounds good as well!

I am interested in getting a system in for my next major upgrade, I have a few questions. When doing a cat-back, should you replace the cat it self? Also should a Resonator be installed to help with the throatiness?
Thanks,
AS
I dont see why you wouldnt want to replace the cat, arnt stock ones very restrictive?
I agree about the Dynomax super turbo, i have one on my car, and ive had a few types of exhausts and i love the way this one sounds,
I have a 2 1/4 header to cat then from the cat back to a 40 series flow master. It has great sound
5 seconds to find another street...
i have a 2 1/2 with a 40 series delta flow it sounds great when it is warm.
see ya!

thats what i was gonna look into for my next muffler. i heard they were good sounding and fairly cheap (mid $30s)
figure what the hell, why not try

the core themselves are almost identical to what's in a "high flow" cat. no, the performance is to be found with the increased pipe size. from 1 7/8 to 2 1/4 is a big jump.

For a muffler I'd go with Borla XS (ebay).
Or the Hooker Maxflow (Jegs or Summit).
And when talking about exhaust pipe size, you have to be careful with what part of the pipe you're talking about.
A lot of the systems are measured by O.D.
So a 2.25" system has a 2.15 I.D. pipe. Pacesetter, Magnaflow
And the 2.5" systems are 2.375 I.D. pipes.
Factory is a 2" outter.
Which has shown to have a 1.6 - 1.875 (1 7/8") inner diameter.
Personally I may switch to the Canadian or ebay set ups. Vibrant, Megan
They're pipes are measured metricly and you get an actual (as close as its gonna get) 2.25 Inner diameter pipe.
With all the systems though, I wish the part that bends over the axle was designed a little different.
Bleh.

which is strange, every cav/fire i've ever measured was 1 7/8 outside, starting with my 96 all the way up to a buddy's 03.
