hey guys. girlfriend has a 2000 sunfire base model and wants to put an 00-02 sunfire gt front bumper on her car. she messaged a guy that had one for sale but he said she couldn't put it on her car without modifying stuff. he never said what though. i thought it should just bolt right on. can someone shed some light on this. if she does have to modify anything what is it and if not...good lol thanks

I believe what needs to be modified is the crush guard.... and then of course you would have to run wiring for the fogs

crush guard is the rubber or honeycomb material between the bumper and the bumper support. once you take the front bumper off you'll see what it is.

trimmed down a bit. sometimes it might stick out a bit too much and not allow a bumper to fit flush and correctly so all that you need to do is trim it back some to allow room. its not hard at all.

If you want it to fit properly you really need to get the impact bar (with the crush guard still attached) off of a '00-'02 Sunfire GT. Just remove the four bolts (two on each end of the impact bar) and bolt it on to your girlfriend's car. You will also need to the front splash shields.

I dont know if its the same thing to swap , but i went with my 97 SE sunfire to 95-99 GT front, all i did is bolt up the bumper, i didnt use the crush guard/rebar or splash shields. And in fact, i didnt even use the rear crush car to do the rear gt swap. Everyone told me to get a crush guard and i didnt even have to use it.

The 1995 - 1999 SE and GT front crush guards should be very similar, if not exactly the same. The only real difference between the 1995 - 1999 front bumpers is the turn signals. The openings in the bumpers are in the same place and, from what I can tell, are the same size and all. This is why you were able to use your SE front crush guard / impact bar and splash shields without any problems.

The problem with the 2000 - 2002 SE and GT front crush guards is that they are totally different. The openings in the bumpers are different sizes and all. While an SE crush guard could in theory be used with a GT front bumper, it definitely would not fit or line up properly. The best thing to do in order for everything to fit and line up properly is to do it the "right" way and switch the crush guard / impact bar and splash shields, at the very least for 2000 - 2002 Sunfire front end swaps.
